Restaurant temporarily (?) closed. Bathroom door in room didn’t close - or close easily/fully. It’s an almost 150 yr old building so that seemed not that abnormal.

What I didn't like was the fact that the bar and the restaurant have been closed for quite some time there was nothing on their website about that and that is half of the experience of going to that hotel so that was very disappointing

Musty rooms...had to open door to get fresh air...no. a/c or fan... wedding and we got to face a building. Garden not maintained

It IS an historic hotel and the room was TINY. The square footage is accurately reported in the listing, but it still shocked me (that's on me, not them). It was also pretty warm in the room and only by opening the door to the outside walkway can you let any air in. But you can't open the door, because it's a walkway with access to other rooms AND the street. Also, the bar next door doesn't keep music on late, but people chat on the patio, which is just the other side of the room we were in.

Mendocino Hotel's location is ideal. You can walk to everything. It's lovely to be in the village and so close to the sea. I also love that it has been a lodging place since the community began.

Run-down appearance (broken window, weeds growing along curb, bird poop on hand rail at front door) all scream "we don't care!" Steep (very steep) staircase and reluctance of staff to help toting bags up them. Hotel's own website still boasts "full service", bar and restaurant which has been untrue since the Pandemic. To be fair Booking.com makes no such claims

Outdoor furniture old and deck chairs all torn. Only one sitting chair in the room, when there were two of us. Smell of hotel when first entering was not fresh; the hotel is obviously not kept up to its old glory.

Perfect location, and the deck surrounding the hotel on the second story (which was where our room was) was beautiful; we loved spending time there. Swing on porch very nice. Staff friendly and accommodating.

We were not informed about the bar and restaurant being closed and that the hotel will undergo major renovations from September. It felt like everything was on hold despite being in the middle of the summer. Cleaning felt half-hearted, our mini-fridge had the leftover lunch from previous guests in it. Some rooms are certainly run down and could use a face lift but it would be so sad if the old style and decoration went away. Please be careful when renovating!

Perfect location and we loved the old style and interior particularly in the main building. PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT RUIN THIS CHARM IN THE UPCOMING RENOVATION!!!!

We were disappointed that the bar and restaurant were closed. I would have been nice to have been able to have a drink and dinner at the hotel.

We found the old historic furnishings very charming. Our room faced the ocean and we especially enjoyed being able to go out onto the deck and see the ocean. The old swing was an extra bonus.

The bed was so high we felt we might hurt ourselves coming off and on it. My husband is 6 foot 1 inches and he too felt worried about the height.

Very spacious room in the Inn's adjoining carriage house. Wonderful bathroom with a large bath big enough for two people. Spacious living room.
