How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Eet friendly staff, spacious rooms and they had a nice cozy spa area. A short walk to the Pacific Ocean, small fishing port with good restaurants.

Our bed was not comfortable for us. We both have back issues, and we used the sofa bed and a lot of pillows. Then we slept well. I think it is just that our bodies are getting older.
The downstairs spa was wonderful! That was the main reason we chose this hotel. The continental breakfast was tasty. The staff was friendly and helpful.

No breakfast tables for four, we needed to shift a second table
Nice design, also fitness room above average for hotels in this price range. First hotel on our trip which offered real glasses and mugs in room and not plastic! Being able to sit on the balcony with ocean and Morro rock was nice

Internet did not work, we got a side room so the view wasn't great, no AC...

Didn't like the low quality of the breakfast menu. I would give a very low rating on the Internet service, which was intermittent. This caused us to use our phones for hot spots, for streaming services. The noises from neighboring rooms was very loud, slamming doors which rattled loudly the ancient heater in our room. And when someone was showering, and running the bathroom fan, it was very loud in our room.
Location, artwork on the walls, clean room, and friendly staff.

I like to be very close to water and this hotel is not. however, since I could not walk far, it didn't matter this stay
original room was totally excellent I had a walker due to a recent injury so we moved down to main level. This second room was too hot (could not turn off heat) bed was totally worn out and I felt like I was going to fall off the edge

The spa pool was unfortunately cold, which was disappointing as I had been looking forward to using it. Breakfast was very average—nothing exceptional, similar to many other places in California. I was also surprised to see a heavy use of single-use plastic items (cups, forks, spoons, and knives) instead of more sustainable options.
I arrived at the Masterpiece Hotel around 7:30 PM on my motorcycle and appreciated the free parking available on site. The staff were friendly and check-in was smooth. The room was spacious and comfortable, which was great after a long day on the road.

Just a minor complaint the did not bother us but I did let the staff know when we checked out. Our small balcony had a pile of crushed cigarette butts and bird droppings. It was cold so we did not spend much time out there so no big deal. Just out of character given how well maintained and clean everything else was.
Good breakfast. Nice art in the hallways.

The pillows were awful. Hard and overstuffed. My girlfriend and I both woke up with stiff necks. No water pressure in the sinks. No hot water in the showers.
Good sized room. Clean. Beautiful soaking tub.

Room needed updating. Bathroom door was hard to close. Rooms have no a/c so our room was stuffy from western sun coming through. No elevator.
Location. Friendly staff. Plenty of hot water. Never heard the guests next door except when they came out on their balcony. Great channels to choose from on Direct TV.

We used the small spa but there were no changing facilities and the towel provided was no bigger than a hand towel. Some of our furniture in the room was poor quality and broken and the fridge was wet inside, dripping from the freezer compartment. One member of staff seemed very unhappy and overworked while the other was friendly and cheerful.
The hotel was fine and we had a large room with two beds, a dining table, microwave and fridge. Each day we had the buffet breakfast provided by the hotel which had a small range of items but included oatmeal and make your own waffles. Parking was good an the hotel is in a reasonable location, a short distance from the beach and shops.

I know this is getting picky most of the staff was very nice one gal needs to smile a lot more. We've seen her several times now I wish she was a happier person.
