Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe public restrooms were a little dingy and kinda unclean. For instance the shower curtains were moldy... The stack of towels felt unclean and were scratchy and stained. This was the biggest pain point for me. The sound insulation was poor in the rooms. I'm a heavy sleeper so it's a non-issue but I know for others it would be difficult. There was no temperature control in the room. Just a small fan, which did its job of being a fan, but wasn't like an Aircon or something of that ilk. The pillows were a little hard... And the blanket situation felt a little unclean too. The walls in the rooms looked unclean too. I don't mind the small space, or even the limited temperature control too much, I just wish everything was clean. It would make a world of difference. I would pay 20% more for a cleaner experience.
Staff was nice, was cheap for Manhattan, good access to food and public transit.

IrelandDidn't like how small the room was. Barely enough rough to lie your suitcase on the floor. No windows. Quite loud with other people nearby.
Loved the location and the extra lock for the door.

SwedenThe rooms are tiny, windowless and have quite bad ventilation, and you hear the other guests very clearly through the walls. It was a bit confusing finding the place as it is behind a locked door and you need to call or text when you are outside (that was tricky for me since I didn’t have wifi) but it was good knowing the place isn’t open for random passersby. If you aren’t picky with hostels I definitely still recommend this place!
The location is great but you really get what you pay for - a tiny room without windows, bad ventilation and super thin walls so you hear your neighbours. But the bathrooms were quite big and comfortable (all rooms share 4 bathrooms in total) and if you have earplugs and only stay in the hostel to sleep it is definitely good enough! There is free coffee and almost always staff working. It felt safe!

Canada- Walls were paper thin. I could hear the couple next door whispering to each other. - My room had a minimalist look to it. it is basically four walls with a bed, a small table, and a mirror. Other than the bare essentials such as a couple of pillows, blanket, and a towel, that's all you will find in the room. - Although you get your own room, bathrooms with showers are shared. This may or may not be a con to some, but for me it was. - You will have to bring your own set of toiletries. The hotel provides them for everyone to peruse, but it would be more hygienic to bring your own instead.
Honestly, this is one of the stays that you "get what you pay for". For the price, I can't really be too critical of the hotel because for your money, you pretty much get a room to yourself, clean sheets and average comfort pillows and blanket. In a city like Manhattan, stays at this price are hard to come by. Further, staff were friendly and hospitable, and the building is located in Chinatown - so plenty of food options for someone like me who enjoys East Asian cuisine. I would personally recommend this stay as long as you're okay with the cons that I'll list below.

Sri LankaThe walls were a little thin so you could hear other guests in the lobby. They were also loud guests so it’s not really the fault of the hotel.
It was clean, simple and efficient. Location was perfect.

United StatesThe room was really small. Okay because we didn't come to NYC to hang out in bed. Really quite small for 2 people. Did not like the open ceiling. Could hear others easily. Since there were no windows in any of the rooms, would have liked to living room area, out on the Bowery side. Get rid of one room near the fire escape and create a space with natural light. Part of staying at a hostel/lodge space is meeting others. No space for that here.
The location. Price. Cleanliness. Great water pressure with hot water. Pleasant and sweet employees.

South AfricaThe room was very small and you could hear everything through the walls. As long as you only sleep in it, you should be fine, especially for short stays.
The location is great - very central and safe. It's very easy to get to and from New York's most popular sights. The staff were also friendly.

BrazilThe entrance to the place is a small door, and to get there there are very steep and long stairs, you need to call a phone to let them know you have arrived so they can open the door. The place is not pretty, but considering the cost-benefit it is acceptable. Remember that New York is expensive, so even places like this have a higher cost, so control your expectations.
The price of accommodation in New York is the most expensive in the world, considering that the price I paid in this place was ok, in other places It would be the same price to stay in a shared room with more people, so here I It was Just me in the Room. The place is very simple, small rooms, no windows and little furniture, but I felt safe there. Shared bathrooms were ok, reception ok. And they helped me with my luggage, I left it there after checkout without any problems. Close to the subway, cheap area for meals, this helped a lot.

CyprusThe decor of the room was kinda sad and there was quite a lot of noise from the hallway and other rooms, in the morning mainly. But that was not too much of a bother. What I didn't like was that all of the fees are not included in the price shown, so what seems like a very good value for money is actually, in my opinion expensive for what it offers. Just have in mind that there is a ≈15% TAX that is excluded (And 3,5 dollars city tax per night). I think those fees should be more clear before booking.
The property matched my expectations. You get what you see in the pictures. It was clean and overall good for a short stay. The location is very nice. It's close to the Brooklyn bridge and has many nice restaurants around. It took us also around 30 minutes to walk to the Statue of Liberty ferry, which was a nice walk. There is also transportation nearby that gets you to the city center.

United StatesThe room is tiny. We assumed from the picture that the room is small, but it is even smaller. Its just a bed and nightstand and that literally all. Two persons can hardly stand inside. Thats the main problem with the place. With the price it does not value the size of the room. Otherwise, I was okay with everything else.
The location is super perfect. Very close to the subway station, Bus stop, and restaurants. The staff were nice. Everything was quite clean, They had water and coffee. We took a room with a shared washroom. There are 4 washrooms and I never found them busy.
