To know that the grand staircase that is a focal point at the hotel and that frames the beautiful bay as you walk into the hotel, which guests love, is going to get removed to create a more business clinical-like hotel foyer when the Loews company renovated the hotel which will cost millions. That will surely affect future rates and the hotel will no longer be family friendly but more geared towards corporate business.

The background music around the resort needs a serious upgrade. It was quite new age and didn’t give off the relaxed Southern California vibe one would expect in San Diego.

I loved that the property is next to the marina. Down that far in the peninsula it was quiet and we LOVED that. The pool area was a bit smaller than expected. The photos made the area look larger. But overall it was fine. 3 small pools with a couple of hot tubs. The folks working everywhere at the resort were attentive and kind. We ordered room service and it was delicious. The room was spacious and the bed and pillows were luxurious! The bathtub was A+. Super deep and molded to allow you to lean back with a place to put your arms. I loved it. We took the 10 minute walk to the beach to watch the sun go down. More than worth it.

Lack of dining options given the hotels location. Cafe has very limited choice, could be better. There is no beach accessible.

Front desk clerk couldn't find my room reservation, just my daughter's. She went to the backroom to get the manager and it was found as Martin for the last name rather than Moore. My confirmations showed it typed as Moore, Martin & Gayle so I'm not sure why the hotel had it as Martin. Room 4101 had either HOT or COLD shower water but nothing in between. My daughter had to take a cold shower. Grout in the lobby/checkin title area was discolored dark so the overall upkeep of the hotel wasn't pristine.

Front desk clerk put our rooms right next to each other which was convenient. They had Happy Hour from 3-5 pm at the lobby bar on Saturday afternoon.

Parkering was unreasonably expensive - 47 dollars pr night is ridiculous. It’s a private area only for guests so no reason to charge so much.

Due to its popularity there were a number of events going on which did mean some outdoor areas were not available to guests not attending those events.

Guest wifi wasn't strong enough to use- you had to upgrade and pay for wifi if you wanted to even do the basics like check emails and see what restaurants are close by. I just think that it should be part of the $50 daily resort fee. I didn't mind as much paying the $47/night car park fee as a shuttle was included that was very handy.

I booked three rooms with different people showing up at different times and I was last and they would not let one of my group check in without a credit card which he did not have which meant my daughter had to use her card and a hold of 741 has been placed for up to ten days. That is really disappointing because I showed up later that evening and had to spend quite a long time at the front desk returning everything to my card and still they left this hold on her card when I had provided a card at reservation time. My room 5120 had a strong musty smell and could probably use some airing.

We woke up at 7am to the smell of weed. Someone in one of the rooms downstairs from us was smoking weed and it was going right into our room. I have 2 little kids. The service was sweet but extremely slow. It took us 1 hour (no exaggeration) to get our food from the restaurant. I called down to get my car from valet and when I got to the lobby 15 minutes later, they hadn’t even begun grabbing my car and it wasn’t that busy. In the lobby we were told to go outside to eat our outside food, which I understand. However there were many other groups in the lobby eating outside food who weren’t told to leave. While I understand this rule, I also believe that as guests of the hotel, we should be able to bring I. Outside food. Given how slow the service is at the restaurant, and the fact that’s there aren’t any other food options super close by, some leeway should be given and it should be consistent. I had to ask for a microwave in our room 3 times before getting one. I love this hotel, but given the expense of it, I do expect a higher level of service. I think the hotel just needed more employees. Knowing how busy it was going to be due to many events happening, the hotel should have hired more staff for the weekend- more valet, more dining staff, etc.. thank you.

The location and views from our room were amazing. Most of the staff was very sweet and accommodating. The facilities are beautiful and comfortable. The beds are super comfortable.
