Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesHonestly, nothing. It's not a super upscale place, but neither is it a rundown stay.
The overall aesthetic and vibe was very charming. The lobby is really nice to hang out in or take a break from things. At 3 PM, there's a nice bar that opens for business. Staff are friendly and helpful.

United StatesThe only gripe would be the loudness of the outside noise coming in. I am unsure if it was because I was in a room right above the bus stop or if the windows were too thin to insulate the room from noise.
I really liked the aesthetic of the place and how well-kept it was. The staff was friendly and helpful. Overall, it was a great stay would definitely stay here again. After leaving, I thought about how if I were to come back to Portland, I would forego a hotel just to stay here.

Great hostel! Staff really nice and the place was really neat. I didn’t go to the rooftop bar but it looked really nice. Great coffee shop Roseline across the street. I’ll definitely be back as I travel to PDX often.

CanadaThe only downfall is the shared bathrooms, however they are very well kept and clean all the time.
Great place to stay if you’re visiting Portland. The hotel has a nice bar and restaurant on site. Plenty of character!

United StatesWould have loved to have the kitchen open for breakfast, but there are plenty of other options close by.
The first floor is full of warm light and well decorated. It makes for a cozy and appealing space to relax. Free coffee for guests was a welcome perk.

United StatesGreat, friendly staff. Very, very clean all around. Women's dorm is small but super comfy beds, little pod bunks, and never had an issue with the bathrooms. Everything is very clean. Downstairs is quiet and great working environment when you need it. Location is convenient for getting downtown, to the airport, and the east side. Very connected by bus and train. Loved my stay here!

United StatesIt was loud late from the street, you need to bring earplugs.
It was cute, the staff was so nice, there wasn't coffee in the room, but there was free coffee in the lobby. There is a discount if you stay at the kex for a spa nearby and that was so great too.

United StatesParking in the lot that says your car has to be out by 8 AM and creating a challenge on finding a parking spot to check out and get all my belongings
It’s been a great location and the staff was super friendly and accommodating given. I didn’t arrive till almost 1 o’clock in the morning and found out that my booking has been in a shared room as well as an autoimmune disorder making depending on someone possibly being sick and they were super accommodating got me in my own room a little extra, but it was worth it and the place is amazing. Overall beautiful place to stay very peaceful.

United StatesI loved it, the bar actually stayed open late, which was huge since as parents we never get to go out, and most hotels close their bars way too early after covid. The food was great too, and the happy hour was super fun. The rooms are lovely and comfortable and the location is easily walkable to good food and transit.
No breakfast but appreciated the coffee and tea downstairs. The bathrooms by the elevators were lovely too, just so we could all have access to sinks and toilets. (we did a family room for 5 people so the one en suite bath wasn't enough in the morning).

SingaporeSuper clean and spacious. Stayed in a dorm and loved the privacy curtains. There were many showers and washroom available outside of the dorm and it was always super clean and not occupied. Clean towers and shower gels were available. The restaurant/bar downstairs had great vibes and was so pretty. I wished the rooftop was open for some fresh air.

DenmarkI went to Portland to attend a Conference in the Oregon Convention Center and had to make a last minute booking. After carefully searching AirBnB , Booking and Trivago, I decided to go for KEX by Booking, which proved a great cost/benefit option. In fact it fitted well my needs, since it's only some blocks from the Convention Center, with good showers, a small fitness space and, the best, a Finish sauna to relax after a long day of Congress. I ended up booking a bunk in a shared room, which was enough for my purpose. Each bunk has its own light, outlet and locker. Installed curtains provide some privacy. Although it was not a problem to me, a more sensitive person may feel a little disturbed by the noise of the air-conditioning or the street traffic, that's not really a big deal. Anyways, earplugs are offered for free in the rooms. Although KEX neither have a shared kitchen nor offer breakfast, there's an independent nice bar/restaurant on the lobby/ground floor where one can order for dinner or invite friends for a drink/chat at the end of the day. You can also bring your own meal at breakfast and eat it there. KEX is located at a walking distance from the Convention Center and from Portland downtown and offers easy access to public transport with a bus stop at its door. I could easily go run by the river in the mornings, which was especially pleasant in the spring time with the blossom cherry trees. The staff (CJ, Alexia, Michael and Cia) were especially friendly and helpful. I will definitely recommend KEX for those looking for a nice and affordable option in Portland.

United StatesLighting in the room and bathroom could have been better.
KEX was a fun boutique hotel in a safe, convenient location in Portland. Just a quick ride across the river to retail, Powell's bookstore, Sterling coffee, etc. Excellent bar/restaurant in the lobby where locals seemed to congregate.
