How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.

When I came back the second night to a different room, the window was up. I reserved a non-smoking room. But for some reason you can tell someone had smoked in the room and the bed sheets smelled just like smoke. I believe I stayed up half the night.

The elevators are really outdated and only one was functioning; The room toilet was malfunctioning, there was only one small trash bin in the entire room and it was the restroom one. You get what you pay for other than that but I felt a functional toilet should be a given at whatever price.

Elevator was not working so I had to take all of my luggage up 3 flights of stairs. Front desk notified me that the payment hadn't gone through so I showed them the payment on the app and credit card statement but he refused to accept so I had to pay again so I can stay. The hallways smelled of smoke. The bathroom had several stands of hair in bathtub, toilet and mirror. The AC never got cold despite it being at the lowest setting.

After I paid online and presented my confirmation to the main desk at the hotel they told me that there were no rooms available. I advised them that I had my confirmation from booking.com and they said that they could not do anything about it even when booking.com showed 5 rooms available on their site. I had to pay and stay at another hotel. Now I need to know how I will be refunded for that when I was not able to stay because of the lack of availability. I am requesting a refund.

Verified reviewDrove in fro a 5 hour trip for a special event. I requested a checkin at 3pm. I arrived at 5pm. My friend who arrived before me was there in the lobby waiting for 45 min. She said they are still cleaning her room and cant get in yet. We waited a couple hours. My event started at 7pm, it was not 6:45 and still no room to get ready. After going back and forth with the worker in the front that i need my room now i ended up having to get ready in my car and leave which i was still late for the event i drove in for. My other friend stayed to wait for the room and they didnt get in until 8:30. This was highly unacceptable! Not only that the room had no soap, no shampoo, no conditioner, elevator didnt even work. They didnt even prepare the room right. To top things off they charge me an extra $30 for a late checkout fee which isnt true. They knocked on my door at 11 and i was gathering my things. Left at 11:15. So quick to charge a late checkout when i should have got a late checkin credit. Worst experience ever. Also people that work there told me this happens everyday.

Verified reviewMain issue was front desk was frequently unattended for greater than 15 min and the keycards frequently did not work so I would go to front desk and no one was there. The staff were pleasant but when I got an offer from my son I could stay with him I took it. He could only pick me up in the evening so I was told to have it be an early checkout for the next day which I had already paid for rather than a late checkout out in which case I would have a “large” fine. So I contacted Booking.com and they said my reservation was changed to Wed morning check out on March 2nd. I left and turned in my key at the front desk about 6:00pm on March 1st. I asked if I needed to sign anything and was told no and gave my 2 key cards.
