How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Our black out blinds didn’t move, so they stayed in place letting sunlight and streetlight shine into the room, so we wished we could have closed them to go to bed.

The parking garage fee, would be nice if amount was reduced since don't have other ffee available parking.
I left my jacket in the closet and when I went back a few hours later, the front desk clerk took me to the room so I could retrieve it. Great downtown location with a nice view of the river. The shower pressure was amazing and water stayed warm throughout.

Both of the front desk people were not very friendly or welcoming.
Loved the location. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Very clean.

The tv didn't work very well, and the pillows were lumpy. The breakfast was ok. The checkout was confusing because we needed our room key for the parking exit.

The only thing I was hesitant to come here was this message I received: Dear Marla Edler, it is our pleasure to welcome you to Hampton Inn & Suites Des Moines Downtown from Saturday, October 12, 2024 to Sunday, October 13, 2024 for a total of 1 nights. Kindly note that check-in is available from 3:00 PM to 12:00 AM. The total price of your stay is USD 235.51. Please be informed In accordance with CDC guidelines, we are requiring face coverings in all indoor public areas of all our hotels throughout the U.S. for guests and Team Members. Additionally, we continue to encourage the use of face coverings at our hotels throughout the rest of the world. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to serving you. When we arrived there were so many people checking in from softball teams, reception staff, etc. who were not wearing masks. I didn't see anyone wearing masks. CDC has updated their policy not requiring masks at this time so perhaps this policy might need to be updated? We both were tempted to cancel our reservation as we didn't care to wear masks but were so happy to see no one was. A beautiful room and so comfortable. Thank you.
The location of the coffee, which I understand why it was there for outside of breakfast hours, but during breakfast hours was not in a user friendly location. Breakast choices were nice but could use more seating.

Finding a restaurant open near Hotel. We didn't want to drive to eat after driving 4 hrs. Either restaurant was for sale or closed. So we had a pizza delivered to our room which was just ok.

$20 to park in the parking garage. I checked in around 9pm and the person working didn’t seem to be wanting to help me. Just handed me the key and gave me no information. Checked out around 8am and the staff was more friendly.
Comfortable bed, clean. Pet friendly. Nice location.

Initially given a king having reserved a two queen room and told “that’s a third party reservation problem” but we insisted on what we booked and they were able to find the two queen room. Not sure what’s going on with their booking.com reservations.
