Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesThe only thing we did not like was our room was on the 1st floor and faced the parking lot, not the issue as it was quiet, but I didn’t feel the curtain in the bathroom gave us a privacy feeling a bathroom should have, hopefully a shade will be added. Also, not a dislike, but on our visit there was no place to just sit outside and enjoy the evening. They’re currently working on a seating area with a fire pit. So it gives us a reason to return 😁
Hospitality! A beautifully renovated inn, the management and staff very pleasant and helpful; breakfast amazing. Our well decorated room made you feel at home with a very comfortable king bed. A little nook with coffee, tea, water and snacks available. A walk away from where a shuttle bus picks you up, much better than being in the center of Bar Harbor trying to find parking and dealing with the hubbub of so many tourists.

United StatesWe were in #6 and the room itself is comfortable and large however we could hear everything above us and the person staying above us was a poor sleeper therefore we both were too. The bathroom is also directly next to a dining room meaning you can be using the toilet and hear someone’s conversation. For the price per night, this felt a bit on the outrageous side.
Staff were lovely. Quaint. Accommodating when dates changed which was very appreciated. Enjoyed having own entrance.

United StatesMy bath was detached from my room, although I’m sure that’s due to last minute booking and last available room. I would’ve liked a long mirror in my room and a bigger vanity in the bathroom.
Room was comfortable and quiet, location was perfect and breakfast was delicious.

United StatesThe AC in my room was very noisy. I didn't ue it overnight because of the noise, and I kept the windows open, but there was noise from the road.
The breakfast was wonderful! Very delicious! One could chose the choice of the day or something else. I particularly like the coffee.

CanadaBreakfast starts a little later (around 8:00 AM) but it’s not a big deal if you’re heading to the park; the trails weren’t too crowded after we ate. The property has that charming old-house feel with hardwood floors and a bit of creaking here and there, so you can hear people walking or opening doors. But honestly, everyone during our stay was super quiet and respectful, so it wasn’t a problem at all.
The property was in a perfect spot; about 7 minutes from Acadia National Park and 5 minutes from Main Street, where you can walk by the ocean, grab food at great restaurants, and check out local shops. The rooms were super clean and nicely decorated, and the staff was amazing; really kind and helpful. Breakfast was such a nice surprise; it felt like eating at a restaurant, with two separate dining rooms that were both cozy and had this cool Victorian-style vibe.

United StatesSnacks, tea, and hot chocolate available in common area but no coffee besides morning/breakfast. So many other great things that I really wouldn’t say I didn’t like it, I just would have liked the option.
Very unique rooms and third floor balcony view is breathtaking. The staff here at check-in was so welcoming and gave a tour before showing us to our room. Perfect place for a couple to enjoy a last minute weekend trip without spending too much money. Great price for very unique and comfortable inn.

It was within a nice walk to downtown food and shops. The property is absolutely gorgeous!!! Our room was stunning! The staff is very friendly and very helpful! The parking is easy and right up front to the property! I felt like I was staying in a room from white lotus! :) We thoroughly enjoyed our visit!!! We would definitely book here again!

United StatesNothing to dislike—service, rooms, and breakfast were all outstanding.
My wife and I absolutely loved our stay at the Cleftstone Inn in Bar Harbor. From the moment we arrived, everything about this place exceeded our expectations. The rooms are incredibly unique - each one has its own charm and character, which made the stay feel extra special. We’re already talking about coming back just to try out a different room next time! The service was top-notch across the board. The front desk staff was welcoming and helpful, the cleaning and breakfast staff were friendly and attentive, and the innkeeper, Steffan, truly made our experience memorable. He took the time to share the history of the inn with us and clearly has a deep passion for the place. Breakfast each morning was a highlight. There’s always a sweet and a savory option, and the menu changes daily which we loved. On our first day, we had the blueberry oatmeal and a breakfast sandwich, and on the second day, the lemon ricotta pancakes and quiche. Everything was absolutely delicious. It was 100% worth it to pay a little extra to have such a high-quality breakfast right downstairs rather than spending time searching for a restaurant and driving there. All in all, we can’t recommend the Cleftstone Inn enough. It’s charming, comfortable, well-run, and full of character. We’re already looking forward to coming back!

United StatesThe breakfast could use some work. There is a sweet and savory option, which is a nice idea, but it would be helpful to know what comes with both options, eg, sausage, ham, fruit, etc. For example, sausage was served with our breakfasts on the first day (she had the savory option, and I had the sweet option). Had we known, we would have asked to exclude the sausage seeing as we don't eat it, which would have resulted in less food waste. Additionally, the overall quality of the breakfast could use some attention, even as the baked goods that were offered before the mains were delectable!
Superb staff and service. Steffen and Marina were immensely helpful, gracious, and accommodating. Quiet, yet inviting spaces, with excellent snacks and beverages.

United StatesIt would have been better if room service was done everyday, atleast change of towels.
The property was beautiful and well maintained for a historic home! The hotel staff is very pleasant and was accommodative of us by serving breakfast even when we showed up after the breakfast time. The Inn gives a lot of privacy to the guests and is perfect for a quiet staycation!

Like everything, Cleftstone Inn is like the dream comes true: perfect combination of classic atmosphere and contemporary amenities. I was attracted by the pictures when making the reservation. The actual conditions match even exceed my expectations! As more and more hotels turn into modern and sleek style, Cleftstone Inn surprises me with the warm, elegant and classic New England charm. From decoration, table setting, artworks, furniture, bedding, even soap and shampoo, I can tell how much attention and details the owner or manager has poured into. The services were exceptional too, Steffan and Marina greeted us with warmth during check in and check out. When we overslept and missed breakfast time in the morning, they arranged us with fresh OJ and a hearty breakfast with sausage, spinach and tomato frittata and fresh fruits. Thanks so much for providing such a charming, welcoming and comfortable place for us to stay after our exhausting trip from west coast to Boston, and the 5 hours drive to Acadia NP. If we have the chance to visit Arcadia again, will definitely return to Cleftstone!
