Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesWhat I didn't like too much was on our first night, there was an abundance of "smoke" smell (IYKYK). Mind you it was supposed to be smoke free, but I guess not all the guests got the message. I let the front desk know, they got the message, and seemed to take care of it, because the next night it was better. Now I know this is not their fault, but this goes with what I found to be the walls very thin, because the smell was inside, not out, so it seemed to seep through the walls. Which brings me to my next point - the walls were so thin that we could hear our neighbors doing everything - walking, talking, laughing (fortunately nothing else lol). But, getting rest when we wanted wasn't always an option. The other thing was that the bathroom could definitely use some updating. It's pretty small and basic. It would be nice if the shower was updated to some tile as the plastic shower pan was creaky which each step. Also you can clearly see the wear and tear on the bottom - worn down and a bit moldy. The sink is small, and the toilet rocked (yes, rocked if you leaned too much to one side :-D). It also bubbled on occasion (don't ask). Also, the air conditioners are the type that are situated in the windows and are pretty old. Probably because they don't make too much of them anymore. So, they made a lot of noise when in use. Which, for us was all the time. Fortunately, we were tired enough and me being from NY originally, I got used to the noise from not only the AC, but also the street noise. You also don't get your room cleaned while staying at a cottage, making it similar to an Airbnb style. Which is fine for a short stay, but still - would be nice. They will just sweep, empty trash cans, and replace towels. However, they ran out of washcloths the last day we were there, so yeah. Other than these things, I still found the stay fine and may do it again for a short visit.
The location of the property was great for me and my daughter who I traveled with. I wanted to be close enough to the beach without having to cross the busy road and this was good enough for us. I got us a cottage and although it was at the end (basically right on Coastal Highway), it offered a straight bath right to the beach. Parking was provided and I was able to get a spot in their lot very close to our cottage. The cottage itself was small, but clean. And I like that it had a separate bedroom from the living space. A full kitchen was provided with your basic conveniences - silverware, some pots and pans, dishes, cups, toaster, coffee pot, full fridge and gas stove. Which I loved the gas stove! It was kind of old school and lit up easily. Everything worked well. The bed was comfy enough - I read that another guest found it uncomfortable so I prepared by bringing a mattress pad, but didn't use it since I found the bed easy to sleep on. As for the bathroom - the best thing about it was that the shower was nice and hot. I had no problem setting the temperature. There were several activities going on and some for kids which I didn't get to use. But, we did go to their Coconuts restaurant and I found the food either good or plentiful. It's your basic menu of American fare and I really enjoyed the burger I got one night. The other food I got out of convenience and it was just meh, but still good. Most of the staff was nice, but I wouldn't say the front desk was overjoyed lol. They checked us in and checked us out fine. I would assume the waitstaff at Coconuts is part of the staff and their energy was pretty much the same - nice, helpful, but not overjoyed. But I would preface this to say that the place was BUSY - so I think I would just be doing what needed to be done as well. However, getting our food was fast (mostly within 10 mins). So it appears they got that process down.

United StatesThe property's dated it needs some TLC the downstairs buffet breakfast feels like you're eating in a cave it's dated back to the 80s it needs a facelift
This is a decent property with a value is typical for the area the benefits is the outside bar with live music the availability of showers to take the sand off your feet also the fact that they will bring you food or drinks to the beach is a super plus on the other hand the property is a little tired it needs some renovation some paint some upgrades parking is fantastic the buffet and restaurant in the basement is not pleasant it feels like you're in a cave it's dated the food is typical of a buffet nothing special the focus should be on the outside allowing people to eat outside in the restaurant area underneath the umbrellas would be great also upgrading the rooms or at least providing some additional paint would be a good step forward otherwise towards the end of the season and off season the prices are pretty good thank you⁷

United StatesStayed for 7 nights. The G cottage unit was farther from the main hotel and beach than we would like. Pullout couch for kids was outdated and the mattress on the pullout is old and very uncomfortable. The shower is very small and not easy to move around in. It was clean for the most part but outdated. Housekeeping did come most days to take out garbage. Office staff were nice and I did receive an email stating I could discuss an upgrade, but no vacancy during the weekend we arrived ,and by midweek felt it would be more of a pain to pack up and move at that point. Would stay at Castle in the Sands again but would book main hotel instead.
37th Street Location in general is close to most OC attractions, Coconuts bar and grill is awesome, great food ,great service. Breakfast in the attached restaurant is good.

United StatesUpon arriving we found the unit to be adequate. It really could have used a maintenance walk thru before renting unit o it. The refrigerator lower section would not cool above 57 degrees, so it was necessary to use a cooler for storing our drinks and lunch meats. The bedroom closet was missing a door, the bedroom AC unit would not cool. We called and within minutes the manager came down and looked at the issue. He then sent maintenance down who replaced the window unit in the bedroom, noted the missing door and informed us that they didn’t have a spare refrigerator or the parts necessary to repair the refrigerator. They did offer us unlimited ice for our food and drinks. I would definitely stay there again as the location was great and it was convenient to the beach, restaurant and pool.

United StatesIn the room, there was a fan (part of the A/C unit) that ran continuously & was loud. At least it was running at a consistent volume, like a white noise machine, but much louder.
The location is perfect, just a short walk to the beach, live music at Coconuts, ice cream shop downstairs in the restaurant area, a huge pool to enjoy & parking included.

United StatesI would have liked the floor to have been mopped and cleaned better prior to our stay. We have a crawling baby and he was so black from the floor. After the long car ride to the beach, the baby was very anxious to get out and crawl around. He was filthy from the floor!
Loved the spacious cottage for our family. Porch was great to hang out on. Cute bedrooms for the kids

United StatesI will not go through booking.com in the future because they confirmed the wrong room for me. And that compromised my enjoyment in my one week stay at a great hotel.
I have stayed at this hotel several times in the past and loved every moment of it. This year I reserve the room through booking.com and I’ve stayed in the same type of room for three years in a row so I chose the same room, in the same building, with an ocean facing balcony in the Waverly castle.I paid over $2300 for the week. When I arrived, I did not have the room I requested. I was given an ocean facing. I paid over $2300 for the week. When I arrived, I did not have the room I requested. I was given an ocean facing room with no kitchen, no pullout couch, and no balcony. I was very upset, but the staff could not help me because I did not book through the hotel. Because I went through booking.com to try to save a few dollars it ended up screwing me over. I will not go through booking.com again.

United StatesIt wasn't the cleanest of space, especially with flies floating around the kitchen during our stay (some part of trash had not been cleaned well before our stay). Bathroom was really really small and barely fit a normal size people.
Excellent location, right next to the beach, and the condo apartment was really good for a family trip of 4 people with comfortable bedroom and decent sofa bed for 2 people.
