Every summer I take my kids to San Diego for a few days. The La Jolla area. This year that trip didn't work out and I still wanted to get near a beach so I combined a quick school clothes shopping trip with a 2 night stay in San Clemente. Everything about this hotel is perfect. However it IS NOT San Diego and my heart isn't justifying the cost with the type of beach here in San Clemente. If this is the area you love or need to be in then staying here at the surf side inn is a fantastic choice. Next year I'll happily pay the extra hotel costs and drive the hour further to scratch my beach though.

This hotel is clean and quaint. The staff is helpful & friendly. The location is perfect if you are wanting to step off a property and across the street to a beach. No complaints. If your wanting/needing to stay in this area, it's a fantastic pick.

A little too noisy with the Hwy and the train tracks being right out front . Wish the bottom floor had better view of ocean . Had problems with people on second floor stomping loud and kids running around and jumping . Very Loud in our room at 6;30 Am and 11:00 pm .

The room was nice and roomy ! Bathroom was a good size , just wish all rooms had bathtubs . Kitchen was a good size and loved the balcony with bbq was very nice !

This facility is a real hidden gem. They are so proactive on maintenance, service, amenities, cleanliness. The front desk reception is friendly and helpful, especially Lisa, who made our family feel welcome. We have used this place twice now, and we will use it again. The rooms are spacious and well appointed.

Properties near the ocean so has a musty smell, but overall not much to dislike

Great property location trying to update the rooms as they go. We were in a really updated room which was nice, but our friends were in a room that hadn’t been updated. Not so nice.

Upon arrival the front desk was so professional and very accommodating. Amanda answered all our questions and gave us useful information. Our stay was not overlooking the water like we asked and were told we had. The only complaint was the room smelled so musty the whole time. I even opened the windows and lit a candle, but it still had a musty odor.

The only inconvenience would be the elevators not operating past a certain time which I am sure it is for a valid reason.

The view and location of this property was incredible especially for the reasonable pricing! We were only there for 2 nights and wish we could have stayed longer - we were already talking about when we would come back! We had never been to Dana Point and it is gorgeous! We didn’t have much time to explore all of their amenities but the pool and hot tub looked clean and inviting - plus they even let you rent out their own bikes and beach gear. The staff was very thorough, friendly and I felt they were more than accommodating. Our room also had the biggest bath tub I had ever seen, it was amazing! Thank you for a great stay and we will definitely be back soon.

Like other reviews state, the bed is terribly uncomfortable. The mattress is very hard. We slept on top of pillows & extra blankets, which helped a little. The beach is right across the street, but the only access is going across a stairway bridge. There are 50-steps going up & 50-steps coming down…and you have to do it twice. Stairs are hard in my knees, so I only made the trek once. The beach is also very steep…and as the sign said, it can be dangerous. To avoid the stairs, you can access the parking lot at the beach by driving down the road & paying a parking fee.

We stayed in a 1-bedroom suite, beach facing, with a large two person tub. The condo was a great size for the two of us. It had a small kitchen with dishes, pots & pans and a dishwasher. The appliances and condo were a bit outdated, but everything worked great & was clean. Our balcony faced the beach, so it was nice to see the sunset each night. The hot tub and pool were nice. The staff were friendly. This is a time-share property. We saw advertisements about purchasing a timeshare, but nobody ever confronted us about it, so that was nice. The price was great for the area and the amenities.

Can be noisy at times, but overall no issues

Easy access and free parking on site. Very clean and the staff was very friendly. Kitchenette is nice and can help with food budget, although we didn’t plan that well.
