My pillows were "bouncy" I know pillows are a personal thing...they weren't horrible, but they didn't suit me. Of course, I made them work, but if you like squishy and flattish, these pillows don't squish and stay squished, they just pop right back into a bouncy state. *I never rate according to pillows, I just like to mention them because I know a lot of "pillow snobs".

Not fancy, not a dump...just a great little middle of the road kind of place to enjoy the vibe of VA Beach. The staff was super friendly, our room was clean, the shower pressure was perfect, beds were comfy. We were there after Labor Day, the crowds were down. The turnover this time of year is not so chaotic, so we were able to check in a little earlier than 4:00p and we were given a later checkout, at 11:30, instead of 11. The hotel does not have a restaurant, however, there is a small one attached that serves a nice breakfast and lunch, with easy prices! In the lobby, there is a cappuccino/espresso machine with several choices and flavors. Also, there's a filtered water station to fill/refill your bottle. The location is excellent if you like to be in the middle of everything.

Pool area small.. we never got in because they had it closed during mornings. Staff didn’t acknowledge you at all if they passed you. No breakfast no coffee that I seen. It’s next to public access so beach is super crowded. Parking is horrible! If you get a spot you better be there for the stay

Be careful with the elevator it will close on you. (Literally) Even knocked me back in and I had to ride it up to the sixth floor and finally back down to my family waiting for me in the lobby. So hold that door open button. Also with marijuana being sold less than a block away. I did smell it in the hall way. A minus for me even if it was just from someone walking by..

Having one room to fit our family of six was awesome ..also room was ready early. The staff was excellent. Clean, comfortable, and quiet.. The whole family was very happy not being on top of each other. The restaurant was great food , great service we all enjoyed it a few times for breakfast and dinner a few times. My kids even wanted to keep going back. Best sunrise by far.

Shower head broken, my husband fixed it. The door touched the toilet and the bottle opener above the toilet paper holder was sharp. The bath towels are small and pool towels are thin, a little larger than hand towels. The outlets in the wall are loose, hard to keep things plugged in. The very hard, spring mattresses slide off the metal platform - constantly pushing the mattresses back and I must have hit my head on the old wall sconces every time I had to pick up anything that fell off the tiny wall shelf between the beds.

Room had 3 beds, oceanfront with full size refrigerator and microwave with sink.

The blonde woman at the desk, maybe the manager, during check in was rude. She continued to be rude during our stay, to my father in law and my children. The other ladies were VERY nice and helpful. Honestly, she (and the very hard beds) would be the reason we stay somewhere else next year. The pool was nice, small but not many people using it; although, your kids cannot have too much fun or the blonde will yell at them for splashing or bringing in the smallest amount of sand. A man jumped from his balcony onto our shared deck because he dropped his weed vape/whatever then came through our room to return to his own floor, as there is not another way into the building from the deck. The hall stunk like weed, giving our little kids headaches while walking from the elevator to our room.

The hotel could use an modern makeover, but it was clean and the staff we interacted with were very friendly and helpful to us first time visitors.

I don't think you could ask for a better location than the Capes Hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The Sea Salt Grill located on site was definitely an added bonus with their friendly staff and great food and drinks. Do yourself a favor a book an Oceanfront room and enjoy just sitting on the balcony and doing some peaceful beach watching/people watching. This was our first visit to Virginia Beach, but I'd definitely stay here again if we were to make a return trip.
