There was very little water pressure and the water was so hard it was almost impossible to wash our hair.

    It was clean and cozy.

    Nothing.

Larger than usual room, with nice homely touches like china coffee cups and a complementary packet of microwave popcorn. After a trip with many stays at bland chain motels, it was nice to find somewhere with some character and charm. Quiet and conveniently located.

Compared to tonight's Motel Safari in Tucumcari, retro can be so much better

    It was retro as advertised.

A classic Route 66 hotel. Living in NM, we like old Rt 66. It's been updated and was great. I loved the cowboy decor and that Yuge cactus sign. The ladies in the office couldn't have been friendlier! The steakhouse next door was excellent. As I mentioned, I live in NM. We claim green chile stew as our own. They made some of the best I ever had. All in all a great stay! Stretch your boundaries a little, don't always stay in the big chains.

It’s a cute place. It was very nostalgic. Pet friendly was important for us. Check in was a breeze and Christina even made a special trip to bring me a blow dryer.

one of the electric sockets didn't work. But not unexpected in an older motel

Was unsure of this small, older motel in a very small town. But the room was very tidy and well decorated with fun memoribilia on historic route 66, a good size for 3-4 people and very clean and well maintained.

Nice motel but town lacks dining options

The town itself seemed closed. The first night we couldn't find anything to eat at all and made do with a packet of chips from the neighbourhood bar (no kitchen) and the popcorn provided by the hotel. The second night we got burgers from the gas station. They were nice but they closed at 8 and were super busy so nearly didn't get food at all. Also there was no breakfast not even a pot of coffee. It would have been nice if there was some food available for guests and/ or if a cafe was open. There is a 1 restaurant in town and its closed Sunday and Monday when we were there. We were hoping for a restful couple of days in the middle of our route 66 journey but had to drive to the next town to get any lunch. ....

The place was super nice. Neatly decorated and comfortable.

Very clean and right next to the only restaurant for miles, which was good! Checkin was a key in the box. Beds were firm but fine for us!

There was a missing cover on an outlet (not a big deal but it may be scary to some). Hopefully that got fixed since our stay. Everything else was perfect!

The staff was super friendly. The room was much larger than your average motel room. There was popcorn available free of charge in the room. It is an older building but it seems Cactus Inn is keeping it updated. If you're staying in McLean, make sure to check out the Cactus Rose Taphouse as well 🙂

As with most motels, there is no food on site but there is a good steakhouse just around the back. However, worth knowing that McLean was until recently a dry town in a wet county: ie no alcohol (wine/beer/spirits) served. This is still (as of May 2023) true of the steakhouse, otherwise good food. There is one bar in town which is a 10 minute walk in the other direction, opposite a very good breakfast cafe/diner The barbed wire museum is definitely worth looking at, hard to believe but absolutely true.
