The food in the restaurant was ok, and nice setting on the redwoods but food wasn’t great and too small a portion of mash and asparagus was hard and stringy. the shop needed to sell a few more fresh items such as fruit.

The restaurant was very disappointing. It is very convenient to have a restaurant on location but we expected better food and service. They have virtually no GF options (other than the salad) and only one vegetarian main course dinner option (pasta) which they were out of when we went. We placed our order (kids meal of chicken tenders and fries, 2 orders of quinoa salad and a side seasonal vegetables) and waited for almost 50 minutes for the order to arrive. The kids meal was good but the salad was extremely tasteless and unappetizing. We ordered a similar salad at The Tavern the next day and it was amazing ! The server did not check on us during the 50 minute wait and we had to ask for an update. We also had breakfast the following morning and found it mediocre at best - it is difficult to mess up fried eggs and toast. One would have expected them to provide the butter or jam with the extra side of bread we had ordered, but they did not and we had to explicitly request it. When the butter did come, it was hard as rock and impossible to spread. So we had to request it to be microwaved a bit. On the bright side, the coffee and hot chocolate were pretty good. We had a much better experience at The Tavern at Fernwood just down the road - more menu options, very quick and attentive service, flavorful food and great presentation. Prices were comparable, if not cheaper.

Lodge restaurant was a BIG letdown for us. We were traveling with kids and parents and had booked 2 rooms. Pros: 1. Excellent location. In the middle of redwoods and easy access to many main attractions such as Pfeiffer Beach, Mcway Falls, multiple state parks, has multiple trails close by or starting from the lodge. 2. Decent cabins - a bit dates but have all the basic comforts one needs. Hot water, comfortable beds and heating if needed (we didn’t need it as we were traveling in July). Has a mini fridge. 3. Clean and well kept 4. Conference Room with common microwave, a ping pong table and good free wi fi. Cons 1. No connectivity at all in the rooms. We didn’t miss a TV, but we certainly felt anxious being totally off the grid. No landlines in the rooms, and with virtually no wi fi and a poor cell signal, one is quite literally off the grid. As our parents are older and were in a cabin a little way away, we felt anxious not being able to communicate easily with them. 2. The restaurant is overpriced (as one would expect), has very limited GF and vegetarian options, the food is below average and the service is very slow and complacent.

Room a little dated but comfortable enough. States that WiFi is available in the room however the signal is not strong enough to reach. Only useable in the lobby or restaurant area. Not good enough to stream either.

Staff were friendly and check in easy. Food in the restaurant was great and they adhered to a dietary request with no issues.

Room 9. No wifi and that is to be expected. It was comfortable having 2 bedrooms. The wall heater in the bedroom with the door that closes does not work . . .you all probably know that already. Thanks for the stay.

Staff are hopeless. Waiting for someone to take us to a table at dinner for 20 minutes. Totally hopeless at breakfast next day. None of them seemed like they cared. Go to fernview for dinner - way better!

Excellent location, very quiet with great scenery. Hikes on your doorstep. Friendly staff, clear instructions. Lodge is really big, plenty of space. Indoor fireplace with firewood prepared. 2 heating units.

No liquids in the dispensers in the shower, some light bulbs were dead and the toilets in the restaurant need maintenance.

The layout was great, there was access to everything.

Hidden, quiet but has good areas for hiking. Beautiful huge redwoods. The staff is so accommodating. The room felt huge because of the high ceilings. The restaurant offered delicious meals.

Big Sur Lodge was a wonderful experience. The cottages are nestled inside the park, separate from the reception area, which adds to the charm and tranquility. We arrived late, but the staff had thoughtfully left clear instructions to find our cottage — a much-appreciated gesture. The cottage itself was spacious and cozy, with two rooms and comfortable beds. The peaceful surroundings and nearby trails made it a perfect nature getaway.

The location and the cottage were so awesome. I really liked the fireplace and complimentary firewood. It was so cozy. I was actually very fond of the idea of no TV!
