LOVELY HISTORICAL HOTEL THAT NEEDS SOME ''TLC'' - STILL IT IS AN ENJOYABLE RESORT!
    • Leisure trip
    • Couple
    • Standard Room
    • Stayed 2 nights

The property is very impressive but it needs some TLC; the paint is peeling in many places, some areas outdoor are covered by dead flies, many plants/flowers plus the grounds are in somewhat poor condition. There is one restaurant that serves food but we were surprised that on the second night, after ordering one piece of lemon cake that was not listed on the menu, we were charged $16.00 plus tax, plus tip; that seems very high. Also on the second morning, for breakfast, the server wanted us to sit beside a group of very noisy young men; when we asked to sit a little further, she made a comment that she would have to walk more and literally, threw the menus on our table. Then we got our coffee in a paper cup at the cost of $3.50 plus tax, plus tip. Then we had to ask her for a glass of water, then for sugar and cream and finally for a spoon for the yogurt. We travel to get a little bit of luxury with good service; this was not the case. There is a pool which you can enter from indoor stairs and it is supposed to be heated; if it is, the water must be set at around 65 degrees Fahrenheit as it was very cold; too chilly for most swimmers. Also, the description on Booking.com mentions that "each room includes a kitchenette, dining area..." and this is incorrect.

To begin, let me say that I really admire individuals or companies that have the courage to own and operate ''historic hotels''. These are, by far, where we love to stay: they have a past, a present and hopefully a future. However, those older properties are a challenge and The Bethel Resort & Suites is a good example. Here is what we liked. 1) The welcoming from the lady at the front desk, who was very nice. 2) Our first room had two single beds; we wanted a double bed so we were upgraded to room 103 which was a suite, with two double beds, two televisions with numerous channels, a fireplace, a balcony, a full bathroom, a refrigerator, a coffee machine and more. 3) The parking is easy and free, right in front of the resort. 4) The area feels very safe and has a good location in the town. 5) There is a restaurant and a bar that offer 3 meals a day. 6) There are many brochures in the lobby that give information as to what to see and do in the area. 7) The hotel has numerous old menus and old pictures that inform about the journey of The Bethel Resort & Suites from 1913 to 2025. 8) Dogs are accepted and the resort provides at Fido House, bags for furry friends. 9) The WI-FI was excellent. 10) Overall, the staff was friendly and helpful.

No remote control for sitting area tv. Double bed sagged with two people. No pool towels in the room nor at pool. (It was a very busy time, admittedly, with eclipse.) For the price of the room, a couple real cream pods would have been nice to accompany coffee amenity. Property a little worn in places.

Beautiful location, old fashioned charm, loved the health center and spa, heated outdoor pool, sauna. Lovely small suite with porch, gas fireplace heater a lovely plus. Refrigerator was nice to have. Cozy!

    Nice space but with flaws

I was staying here with my two teenaged sons. When I checked in, I handed them my credit card and drivers license, as requested. The clerk at check-in handed me my license back, and when I was done signing everything, she gave me my keys, but not the credit card. I asked for it and she said, "I already gave it back to you." I was pretty sure she hadn't, but I checked my pockets and purse twice. No card. It was busy due to the eclipse, so I get that it was chaotic, so I asked her to check again. She and another worker did a very quick search and swore they didn't have it. I said I would have to cancel my card if they didn't have it, and they basically said that I should. When I got to my room I checked my pockets and purse again, and definitely did not have it. I called the desk to see if it had turned up and they said "Maybe you lost it by the pool or at your car." The last time I saw it was when I handed it to them, so there was no way it was anywhere but by that front desk. I never did get it back and had to cancel my card, which has a lot of hassle connected with it. The upstairs TV didn't work, and I discovered that the cable box was unplugged and the USB connector for it was not hooked up to the TV either. The gas fireplace would not work at all. For such a huge suite, the sleeping space is pretty sparse. My sons shared the queen bed in the lower level, and I volunteered to take the pull out sofa. We set it up, and the mattress was nothing more than a bunch of springs covered by a thin layer of cloth. I have slept on pull out sofas before and know they are not the pinnacle of comfort, but this was absolutely worse than even the floor, even my sons agreed. Fortunately, the couch itself was cozy. Additionally, a bright security light was shining through the curtains that did not completely cover the window (picture attached), and I could hear every word the people next door were saying.

The townhouse was spacious, updated, and very clean. The grounds and scenery are beautiful as well. The kitchen was well-appointed. It is clear that the cleaning staff work very hard to keep things nice!

    Great location near Sunday River

The trip started off poorly. Our original room was far away from the main inn. We also couldn't get in the room - there was something wrong with the lock. It took about 15 minutes for someone to come let us in. Then we were disappointed to find that the room looked nothing like any of the photos on Booking.com and smelled musty. The remote was missing batteries and then, even with batteries, the TV did not work. Not worth what we paid at all. After 3 calls to the front desk, they moved us to the main inn area.

Once they switched our room, we were happy. The new room was in the main lodge and was clean and nice. This room looked like the online pictures and was worth the nightly fee. The inn location is great - near the little downtown and close to Sunday River.

A weather related power loss caused an alarm malfunction due to aweak battery. Then, upon the power being restored, the fire alarm system activated. Which resulted in a horrible night's sleep. This was understandably to no fault of the Inn or Staff.

Room was noisy. We could hear every door that opened and every step on the stairs and every voice that uttered a sound. The shower was slippery and no provision for a non-slip surface. We booked a king size bed and got twin beds. Room smelled like someone's pet stayed there. The coffee in the room was as bad as ever I've had.

The hotel charges an additional fee for the pool and gym even if you do not use them. They don’t tell you about the fee before. The towels were not replaced or the trash taken out during our 5 nights stay. When asked, we were told that we had to ask everyday. The carpet was full of stains and the balcony was dirty.

The location is great. The grounds look great because it is a golf course. The suite had a little balcony but it was dirty. The suite was spacious and the windows open.
