How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

A small cockroach in the bathroom, otherwise everything was fine.

Their free breakfast was not good at all. Eggs and sausage were cold, potatoes were under cooked, and the waffles didn't taste very good.
The price was good considering just a few miles away the price for places triples cause its closer to downtown St. Augustine. Most of the staff were very nice, one was a little on the salty side. Being able to use the hot tub was enjoyable. For the price it was a good place.

The tv system and wifi had problems caused by a lightning hit prior to our arrival.
The facility was extremely clean, the employees were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was great.

Room felt slightly damp
Nice spacious room. Well kitted out fridge and microwave and coffee. Comfy beds. Good shower. Lovely breakfast, plenty of choice. Close to downtown St Augustine. Friendly staff and simple check in.

Pool water too hot. Not very good cable channels. No soda in vending machines. No phone in room.

My only complaints would be the carpet between the two beds smelled like dried up urine. I understand this is a pet friendly motel but the carpet Definitely needed a deep cleaning. Additionally, there was a horrible odor everytime we turned on water. Had to let it run for a few minutes Other than that I would recommend this place if you're looking for an affordable place to stay near attractions.
We really enjoyed the location and the Value of the Smart Stay Inn. The attractions were not too far away which was perfect. We had the Complimentary breakfast on 1st day there. Not too bad Our beds were comfortable. Used the laundromat and gym while we waited.

Our ac unit was loud
Clean rooms, soft blanket. Free breakfast. Easy check in well lit parking lot with cameras. Night check in lady was awesome.

Waited 18 min. for the pool to get unlocked on our last morning. In evening coffee was cold, had to heat it up. Only little Styrofoam cups.
The older staff was great and helpful. The younger just chatted with each other.

Now, on the flip side, there is no elevator only stairs. The hot tub was on but no bubbles, and the skimmer was not keeping out the debris. When we first got there, we stood waiting in the lobby for about 5 minutes, just waiting for someone to show up to get checked in.
Everything was clean and well kept for the most part. The dog park was great for our pups, and our 5 year old loved the kids' play area. They even had a gas grill for guests out on the patio. The pool was great. For the price, it's not bad.

The breakfast wasn't that good. The eggs were not cooked all the way, and the sausage was too hard. But the waffles were amazing. Wish there was cranberry juice.

The lighting in the room was very poor.
The pool and playground area were fantastic! We spent a few hours swimming and playing. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good with maybe options. Really enjoyed our stay.

The pool area closes at 10, and it was pretty full most of the day into the night. And, the hot tub, not even a chance to get in. I understand it was memorial day weekend, and the motel was sold out, but my husband and I were really looking forward to being able to wind down at the end of the day, for just a few minutes in the hot tub. (One of the main reasons we chose to stay here) Instead, we patiently waited for almost 2 hours, watching the group continue drinking and enjoying it, with no regard to the two other couples, besides us, waiting. Finally, we just gave up. This doesn't reflect on our feelings about the motel itself, or the staff, because they were great. Just wish the group in the hot tub would have been a little more considerate.
Bed was comfortable, staff was great, room was clean, there was an actual breakfast, with hot food (which is rare in our post COVID life).

Tiny bit of mold in shower where tile meets tub on both sides. ROOM 106 But other than that it was very nice. Glad we chose this place to relax for the weekend. Our puppy loved the dog park.
