It’s clean, comfy, convenient, great location, quiet, kind staff & owner. Second time here and would highly recommend this place. I love the old building’s features there. Most of the guests are Japanese.

Didn't bother me at all but you do have to climb stairs to access different facilities (shower, toilet, bedrooms, etc.). So if you aren't good with stairs it may not be for you.

This was such a lovely guest house to stay in whilst in Tainan. Located in a quaint, quiet alley but so close to lots of the main sights. Incredibly clean and really comfortable. Great common area as well. Felt like a home away from home:) I hope I can come back again soon.

Probably a tricky thing is that you probably can’t call a cab to the doorstep (it didn’t seem like there’s easy road access for cars, the building is in an alley). A/C doesn’t keep running 24/7 in bedrooms and common space, it’s turned on and off depending on time of day (however, the common room can still have a ceiling fan on at night).

The boss is present and in control, which is good and bad in case he’s strict. There are various convenient things like ability to buy a bit of laundry detergent powder at the reception, there’s a washing machine and if you need to hand-wash you can do it upstairs. Sofas in the common room are comfy, and Wi-Fi was strong enough. Bedroom was quiet. As far as hostels go it’s good, it’d be more fun with more people but this was in the middle of hot off-season.

The location is good, right in the city centre and nicely hidden in a small alley. The room was clean, the aircon was working well.

After checking out the hotel staff didn't want me to stay in the common area... never had this issue before with any accommodation, so I felt a little bit unwelcome.

Loved the hostel overall! Very clean and cozy! As a female solo traveler I felt very safe and comfortable. All necessities were available. It was worth the money and I would come again! :)

Tainan Guest House is a nice hidden hostel very near to the old center and the most attractions. The staff is very kind and helpful. In the shared living room and kitchen you can rest by a cup of tea or coffee offered by the guest house.

Thin walls: I could hear the other guests showering, using hair dryer, and doing laundry well past 1 am. Thin curtains: the room wasn't dark enough to sleep in. Someone in the room across the hallway left their door open with lights on. And the light shined into my room, well past 1 am. Hard pillows: they looked nice, but they were impossible to sleep on and gave me a neck pain.

Location: charming and quiet alley in a nice area. The room was cozy and cute, just like the rest of the hotel. It's a pity that my experience was ruined by the inconsideration of some other guests.

Cute quirky hostel run by Japanese staff in a peaceful backstreet. Make sure you follow the instructions they give you on the photo to get there, because the backstreets are quite windy, but it meant the house was super quiet. The hostel had an interesting layout with bathrooms and common area on the bottom floor, dorm room on the middle and showers on the top floor and mini lockers were provided for valuables (only big enough for phone, passport, too small for laptop). The owner was a little curt but the other staff was lovely, we mostly spoke in mandarin, but they did speak some English too. Location is great, not far from the train station or the main attractions of West Central District. Everywhere was very clean and the dorm bed I had was exceedingly comfortable; I would happily stay again.

Located in a super authentic part of Tainan, Hamuya is just a few blocks away from the main train station. The hosts are so nice and funny, providing me with a warm welcome. They contribute to an awesome atmosphere of travelers from all over. Their dog is also a sweetheart. The beds are comfortable and everything is very clean! I will definitely stay again when I am back in Tainan.

The common area is really good, with comfy sofas, a full kitchen and free tea and coffee. The rooms and the guest house itself are very cute and cosy and the owners (Japanese) are very friendly.

It's overpriced for what you are getting. It's quite far from the train station, but I picked it because of what I read in the description on Booking.com. Terrace, garden, outdoor sitting area, designated smoking area, kitchen. This was even justified with photos both on Booking.com and on Google. There is NO outdoor sitting area anymore! Not a single table or chair! (They did rustle up a makeshift space though when I mentioned it). The kitchen is nice, but no frying allowed. After a long time in Taiwan, I'm dying for fried eggs for breakfast.

Cozy, homely and clean Guest House with friendly staff who speak a little English. Nice dining area in the kitchen downstairs. Fridge, microwave and a hot and cold water dispenser. Excellent WiFi. Spacious comfortable room that had both Aircon and a fan.

The pocket socket is two pin. Not the uk 3pin plug, hence you have to get an adapter. The wifi connection not good for certain rooms. I didnt manage to get connected because i stay for only 1 night though the pw was given, i cant get connected till the next day at the kitchen lobby. The door for individual room was filmsy. Sound proof wasnt great.

Very steep staircase so got to be extra mindful when going up and down for the restrooms/shower rooms.

Not easy to find as they have communicated but once you find it with their provided map, it is pretty easy to locate later on despite a winding path.
