How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewI’m a solo female traveller on a short trip, and this is my second time staying at Star Hostel. It’s truly the best hostel I’ve experienced in Taipei so far. The location is very convenient, just a short walk (3minutes) to the MRT station. The exterior of the building look small, however, the rooms, washrooms, and common hall feel spacious and relaxing. All the amenities are well thought out and well equipped, and the system they instilled to maintain the cleanliness are what I appreciate most. It always feels safe, welcoming, and like a home away from home.

Verified reviewThis is my 2nd stay at this hostel. We love the location- surrounded by shops and restaurants. A block away from the MRT. Our room was big and comfy for a family four. A full size bed and large bunks. The breakfast in the am was great. Access to kitchen and clean peaceful common area is great. Staff was very helpful in getting me directions for an out of Taipei excursion.
The bathrooms could have been a little cleaner. There were moldy spots. It would be great to have longer breakfast hours. We missed two meals bc we left for early excursions

Verified reviewI really liked the thoughtful design of literally everything: ypu have a small basket to take with you when you go to the bathroom; the breakfast was exceptionally good! The bathroom was very, very clean and the showers were very spacious. The lockers in the room were big enough for my backpack to fit in. There was a laundry and a dryer upstairs, and the location was nicely in the middle of Da‘an districht and easily accessible via public transport. 10/10 would go there again!

Verified reviewLocked me out in the middle of the night though they had guaranteed my late check-in. I’m a 21yo woman travelling alone and was left wandering Taipei at 2am with no cash, no SIM card, no accomodation.

Verified reviewvery clean washroom and shower, well equipped with hair dryer, hair straightener, facial pads, dental floss, cotton swab. Separated space for dry duty and changing clothes next to each shower room. Toilets are the advanced japanese style ones. Dorm room with curtain for each bed, lockers to store luggage that can only open with your card, hangers, basket for using in shower, each bed has lights and sockets. Convenient location, only 1 min walk from the mrt exit. Nice staff.
bed slightly thin and hard for me, but can still sleep. (not related to property: roommates come back at mid night and go out before sunrise, quite noisy and affect sleep quality).

Verified reviewThe location, price and amenities.
The mattress was very uncomfortable (nothing more than a think mattress on the floor), and the bathrooms were very very humid.

Verified reviewIt's super clean and the bed is really comfortable. Storage in room is plenty and can leave stuff in lockers. The common/kitchen area is very chill and spacious and the shared bathroom facilities were clean and new.
It's a tiny bit hot for me after closing the curtains to sleep, I had to lift it up in the middle of the night.

Verified reviewLocated in a not-too-busy area. Nice facilies. Very near the MRT exit. Provides free sanitary pads, rubber hair tie, cotton pads, and earplugs. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice breakfast. Will defo come back.
May be the bunk bed makes a little too much sounds when someone on the top bunk moves, but it’s not that serious.

Verified reviewPerfect location. Very clean, well organised and nice little finishing touches. Staff were always very helpful.
Room was tight and bed was very hard but we were in the middle of Taipei. It would be unfair to expect any different. Would have appreciated a hand towel in the bathroom.

Verified reviewThe location is excellent—right next to the MRT station, making it very convenient to get around. It’s a standalone building, and the entire floor I stayed on was for women only. The hygiene was also great, and they even provided items like a curling iron.
The breakfast was average, with limited variety.
