How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe staff was nice and allowed us to make use of the entire space. There was free use of washing machine and it helped that there was a lot of open space to hang my clothes. It reminded me of my grandparents' place, and I felt really comfortable walking around the space. The location is also near enough to enjoy food from the convenience store, or other stores. The room was cosy but because I had the fortune to stay alone in the dormitory room, I think it was not too bad. This was suitable for cyclists as they also allowed you to park the bikes indoors. Worth another stay.
If you are sensitive to cats, you may need to watch out as there are two really adorable cats around.

Verified reviewThere was this strong feeling that the elderly couple who runs it has put a lot of love and care into it, and that many people who have passed by, had a great time there!

Verified reviewIt was clean and storing my bike was no problem. The woman working there was nice. There is a free washing machine.
I thought long about writing this and decided to say it: there was a man working there (maybe the owner) who made some inappropriate comments to me and other girls staying there. First I just wanted to ignore it, but in the morning when I left, I went to pick up my clothes from the drying rack, and out of all things, my bra was missing. I searched the area to make sure it just didn't fall down, also checked the washing machine if it was stuck there (I remember clearly hanging it up), but it was nowhere to be found. I also got no message from the hostel that they found something I left behind. I am very disappointed and because of that, can't think back about this hostel in good memories. Also, I booked an all female dormitory room but was placed in a mixed one with no explanation.

Verified reviewThe facility has wash machines for free, wow. Literally, you are at home. They have small facilities you'll not find in any hostels around town. Hot water, cold water, and a fridge to keep your drinks and food, are all free. They have a cool common lobby, with tables. They have a minibar out there, Please go there and you'll love it. I was awesoming just like Bernie told Ted.
It is costly from the nearby Train station' especially when using a Taxi. The good thing is that it is not far from Kenting and Marine Biology aquarium is just 15 minutes drive away. They don't have in-room safety drawers to keep your belongings. These are located outside the rooms.

Verified reviewClean, friendly owner. Lots of down-home touches. Coming from glitzy accommodation in the big cities in the coastal plain, Checheng is a little more of a grassroots kind of place, but clean and comfortable.

Verified reviewA really friendly hostel, the hosts were super welcoming and keen to show me around and talk about the local area. The hostel itself is well equipped, with a large covered outdoor area for bike maintenance, relaxation, and laundry. Use of the washing machine itself was free, with space to hand the clothes and air dry. The bunk rooms are compact but comfortable.
The modesty curtains on the bunks are a little too see through for my liking. would have been nice to have had a proper curtain to pull across and keep out the light. The electricals in the bathroom are a little 'DIY'.

Verified reviewI spent Two nights and three days in Checheng, and these hosts were the best I could hope for. i arrived earlier than expected and they warmly welcomed me to eat lunch with them, which was delicious by the way. i spent the whole afternoon with their daughter who showed me some special places in Checheng. We ate dinner together, I felt like I was a member of their charming family. As I came for the Full Moon Festival they brought me with them to pray in the marvelous temple of Checheng. I really appreciated being involved in this cultural adventure. They were so kind with me. Thank you very much I really felt at ease. the next day they lent me the bike and I really had a nice day wandering in Checheng streets and roads next to the sea. The sunsets are amazing!
nothing, everything was perfect.

Verified reviewI’ll say it’s quite an excellent experience staying in the hostel. First of all, my time there was during the weekdays, only one guest is me, so I got a totally private room with a bunk-bed price. Secondly, the location is quite nice, with convenient stores, local super markets, and a street for food just near the Fu-an temple, all stores above are all in 3 minutes by walk, and there is even a police station just near by which is really comforting even I’m a solo traveler. When staying there, I went to Haikou Fishing Harbor Service Center which is actually an art museum with different exhibitions periodically.(by walk around 25 minutes) It’s also not far to the city center of Hengchun which is a relatively bustling place, you could take the bus No.9189 9188 9177 or any bus pass by(around 25 minutes) Go to grab some good food and a good coffee at Hengchun bus station and then take another 30 mins bus to Kenting for the beautiful natural landscape and buy yourself a drink. (the last bus back to hostel from Kenting is at 21:30, so don’t miss it!) BTW, the timetable on google map is not exactly, so make sure check the dynamic schedule of the bus you’re waiting for online. The last but not least, the warmness and kindness from the host and his family are the most important to the second visit. They treat me like friend and share me with local mango and sashimi, that’s truly a special experience. Highly recommended and will visit again definitely!

Verified reviewDefinitely a gem of a hostel. Feels like an old-school backpackers spot. The owners are extremely kind. It's also very convenient for cyclists along route 1, or en route to Kenting park. Definitely wish I'd had time to stay longer. Beds are comfy, place to store bike, close to convenience store and restaurants.

Verified reviewGreat location on the national bike route. Super well set up for people doing the round island tour. Its a real old school type hostel, beds were nice. Nearby to the beach, big temple, night market. Owner is a family, very friendly people. Lots of old photos on the wall of previous eras of guests.
Walls are thin, if you have noisy neighbors you won't sleep. Old women next to me who wouldn't be quiet until 2am. Maybe they are pensioner living at hostel, lol.
