Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United Kingdom1. Lack of Basic Amenities: As a Muslim-majority country, I was genuinely surprised to find no water facilities in the toilet, which made things quite inconvenient. Additionally, the bathroom lacked shelves and proper lighting. 2. Language Barrier: While the staff were friendly and eager to help, none of them spoke any English. I understand that Arabic and French are the main languages in Tunisia, but for a hotel catering to international guests, having at least one English speaking staff member is essential. Communication became a real challenge, I often had to rely on Google Translate or gestures and sometimes gave up asking for things altogether. 3. Poor Breakfast: The breakfast offering was very basic, a few cut fruits, toast and lemon juice. 4. Hotel Location: The hotel is located in a steep alley where taxis can’t reach the door. This became a hassle, especially when carrying shopping or luggage. At night, the alley had stray dogs roaming which made us feel unsafe walking back. 5. Inconsistent Wifi: The wifi in the room was unreliable and frequently disconnected, which was frustrating when trying to plan our day or stay connected.
The room itself was very clean including the bathrooms. Loved the terrace view even though it was overlooking a graveyard (which I was already aware of after reading the reviews so wasn’t a big shock).

NetherlandsThe hotel is pretty and the rooms are comfortable. The breakfast was exceptional. However, the room was quite small and not very well isolated. Because of this it was pretty cold when it was windy. Our room had a view over the cemetery, which is not a big deal but did make the atmosphere a bit less good. Staff was very friendly.

JapanI stayed for 2 consecutive nights, but the room was not cleaned or towels changed during that time. Even if there were house rules, there was no explanation of them. (After I noticed that, I asked for a change of towels and they prepared them.)
The location of the hotel was very good. It was located at the highest point in the city, so it was nice to be able to see all the way to the ocean from the rooftop. Breakfast was also delicious.

AustraliaThe WiFi is barely existent both in the room and down in courtyard so relied on my eSIM. Difficult to find as no signposts indicate direction of Dar and no one answered telephone when I attempted to call via WhatsApp. Staff were smoking in courtyard which filtered up to the rooms. The pool is cool (small) but the glass frames are filthy and the tiling is covered in pigeon droppings. This appears to be a regular complaint and is a health hazard so needs to be addressed. I am non French speaking and found it difficult communicating with staff who has minimal English. The glass windows in the rooms are not double glazed so I could hear every conversation going on outside from passersby commencing from 5am until late at night. I cannot give this Dar a high rating due to these things which are, in my opinion, easy to rectify.
Stunning old Dar simply and stylishly decorated. Very comfortable room, spacious & spotlessly clean. Excellent shower. Delicious, ample breakfast. Loved being able to open my bedroom windows to let fresh air in daily.

United KingdomThere were pigeons in our bathroom window, so we couldn't open it - but that was ok. Unfortunately also the pool was dirty because of the pigeons, so we ended up not using it which was a shame as this was the reason for this hotel.
Great location, very friendly staff and amazing breakfast. Very pretty rooms, easy to keep cool. The house itself is super nice as well and you have an amazing view from the roof. I could leave my luggage on the day I checked out, which was super good as well.

SwedenThe pool is too small to swim in, but it is good enough to dip and cool off if you sunbathe on the terrace. Cars can't drive all the way up to the hotel so be prepared for a bit of a walk. But it's worth it! To reach the nearest beach you need to walk down stone steps. Fantastic view but it's a bit difficult to walk in, so it'a a good idea to wear good shoes. It is also possible to take a taxi to and from the beach!
A cozy hotel with traditional decor and friendly staff. The view from the roof terrace is AMAZING, make sure to visit it in the evening when the sun goes down! In the morning a tray of good breakfast is served in the courtyard. Comfortable and nice rooms.

SwedenThey seemed a bit surprised as we arrived and we got our room 30 minutes late compared to the hours stated on Booking. Some confusion with the payment where I had to correct the staff member that two times almost taxed me 10 times too much. Apart from that great experience!
Very beautiful place, great terrace with a pool on the roof which felt completely private! Beautiful views both from the terrace and our room. Tasty breakfast included served by friendly staff. Great location in the city center.

FinlandWell, because it is such a unique (and touristic) town the prize is very high compared to the general price level in Tunisia. The language skills of staff are a problem. I know that French is the main language after the Arabic in Tunisia, but if you offer rooms on the international market you could learn at least some basics of English. I also felt weird that I was more active in trying to communicate by trying to use the help of online translators or ready learned phrases. As I was trying to achieve understanding with the hotel staff I was just wondering why it couldn't be the other way round. Shouldn't the staff strive for trying to understand their customers. The air-source heat pump in my room only produced cold air. In April I was in need of warm air instead. I come from northern Europe where the indoor temperature always stays nice and warm - I am not used to it being chilly indoors. The radiator was turned on and the situation got better but the air-source heat pump would have been nice, as well. There is not much sound isolation, so there is some street noise but luckily the nights were quiet.
Dar Fatma is not one of your chain hotels so for that it is a great choice! It is unique and I know for sure that I will remember this stay and this hotel for the rest of my travelling days. The town/village Sidi Bou Said is also unique so it felt special to be a guest in this city and in this hotel. The hotel surroundings are nice and safe. No cars can drive around the hotel, so the only street noise is people talking. I visited during a really busy weekend, and the hotel is just a stone throw away from the "main street". But it feels like a distance... there is no touristic business in the very close proximity of the hotel. Dar Fatma is a typical Tunisian house so the stay was culturally super interesting. It has an Arab door and an inner court and an open roof. Just so cool! The rooms are in different parts of the house. Just charming!

United StatesOur room overlooked a cemetary. The booking site stated there is a hot tub and pool but no hot tub available and the pool looked like an infection waiting to happen because of all the birds that used it as a bath. Lots of people use the path to the cemetary and view point so it sounds like people are literally in your room when they walk buy. We were given a basic breakfast of fruit and breads with yougurt. We noticed that other people were getting much better breakfasts.
Nice spot on top of a hill overlooking the ocean. Clean facility within steps to the touristy spots of Sidi Bou Saïd. Cool rooftop with good views. Quiet at night once all of the people using the view point disappear.
