Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. DenmarkWe stayed at Secret Garden Chiang Mai for one week in January 2025. We enjoyed it very much. The family who has Secret Garden has given the place there own personal touch so the place has a very special charming atmosphere. The family made the most fantastic food for us both for breakfast and dinner. They helped us in every way to get the best vaccation. When we had made an arrangement with a grap for a whole day and it did not show up the mother of the family right away found another driver for us. We had good conversations with Isabell which learned us a lot about Thailand. We give the place our best recommendations. We hope to come back one day.

United StatesWe had a wonderful stay at the Secret Garden. As the name suggests, it is secluded and calm. We greatly appreciated their drinks and food. Couldn't recommend it highly enough.

United KingdomNothing at all.
This is a family owned and run gem, located about 13 km outside of the city, which we stumbled across when searching for somewhere to stay in Chiangmai. A GRAB fair from the City was THB170 (less than GBP5) to get to the resort. The location is a large garden which has the feel of a jungle. You are surrounded by trees and wildlife and is a great place to relax and switch off. There is a pool in which you can cool off and a bar where freshly made cocktails are available. The rooms are comfortable and air conditioned, some with verandas where you can enjoy an evening drink and take in the sounds of the wildlife which surrounds you. Breakfast is freshly made and is amazing as is dinner if you decide not to eat in Chiangmai, you can even choose the menu. Isabelle and her family are friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble for them. They work extremely hard to make your stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible.

United StatesYou need to be aware that this place is not in a city. There are very few places to shop or eat in the area so probably best to bring what you need. Ubers are plentiful and cheap so it’s not a huge deal to not have transport. The mosquitoes were out in force while we were there but they do have coils and spray. *This was not unique to this property because everywhere we went the mosquitoes came out in the evenings.
This place is just wonderful!! It truly is a secret garden with beautiful lush gardens all around. Even though the property is great, the best thing about this place is the family running it and the people who work there. They make everyone feel so welcomed and included! We so enjoyed meeting them and also all the other guests at the daily breakfasts and also dinners if you choose. (The family offers delicious dinners every evening except Sunday for a very reasonable price, you just have to let them know if you want it in the morning). They also have a honor bar and all the drinking water you want. I think this has got to be one of the best places I’ve ever stayed just due to how we were treated. Also for us it was great that the owners spoke perfect English and I think some other languages. Our accommodation was a little different from most of the guests because we stayed in the large older house. (I believe most of the other cabins are more modern). That said, we were very comfortable having the whole place to ourselves. Two floors, 2 bedrooms, a family room, a huge bathroom and a veranda. Also a small separate kitchenette. This house is probably not for someone with mobility issues as it does have a very steep staircase but we had no problem except for my husband being a little too tall for some areas. Room cleaning was done every day and drinking water was provided. I would definitely recommend staying here to anyone visiting the area.

United KingdomNothing.
Everything! The place is amazing. Extremely clean. The food is superb and only 195 bahts for dinner...and there's a lot of it, cooked from fresh food every day by Isabel and her mum. Gardens are beautiful. Handmade furniture from old wagon wheels...and the sunbeds have slide-in-and-out drinks holders (those little detailed things!) The cocktails are the best we've had in Thailand! If we could give 12/10, we would. It's only 380 bahts to get into the City, but if you want to see the best temple in Chiang Mai then go to Wat Doi Saket, about 8 miles away, very quiet and stunning views from the top.

An easy 10/10 for Secret Garden Chiang Mai! - Super welcoming and friendly hosts. :) - The grounds are beautiful, it felt like staying in a botanical garden. - The breakfast is absolutely incredible! It's easily the best breakfast I had in Thailand! Yummy homemade food in a vast assortment of things to choose from. Dinner was also delicious, such great cooks! - Even though the grounds and buildings are visibly old, the quality of things were good which I appreciate. You can tell that they were built with great care and quality and were/are very well maintained. - I thought the Smart TV was a nice touch to an otherwise bit older establishment :)

ThailandSuper excellent service and attention to detail from Isabella and her team. Home-style Thai food. This is a small, quiet family-run Thai resort in a small village on the eastern outskirts of Chiang Mai (only 100-200 baht Grab ride to the centre). Would appeal to the slower traveller who is happy to be far away from bright lights and is not in a hurry to do anything.

IsraelSecret Garden was best place for our first place to stay in thailand. Beautiful quiet place near the umbrellas village of Bo Sang. Our hosts were unbelievable, especially Isabel with perfect english (and other languages), and unbelievable carrying and efforts to help and advice. Isabel’s mother Pai, cooks the best homemade thai food. With love and kindness she cooks dinner which suits kids and adults alike. We enjoyed every second in the Secret Garden

SingaporeWe recently stayed at the Secret Garden Chiang Mai and the exceptional hospitality even before we arrived was consistently maintained all throughout our stay. A family-owned business, they truly went out of their way to make us feel welcome. They were always available to answer any questions and make recommendations. The hotel is located in a quiet area if you are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the shopping and tourist districts. It offers great value for money, and more importantly, Isabel, Phai and Peter made sure we were well taken care of. Case in point is the hearty breakfast spread, it was the perfect way to start the day whether it was the fried potatoes, delicate thin crepes, tasty sausages, fluffy omelette and fresh coffee. A personal favorite would be the crispy bacon, fried to perfection! If you plan to have dinner at Secret Garden, all you have to do is to let Isabel know and their set menu at Secret Garden Chiang Mai is a must-try for anyone looking for a delicious taste of local flavors at a very reasonable price.

NetherlandsThe only downside i can think of is the location on the outskirts of Chiang mai. It takes about 25-35 minutes to get to the city centre. However taxi's are very affordable in Thailand, especially when using services like Grab or Bolt and it is really nice to come back to all the serenity this place offers after exploring Chiang mai's hustle and bustle.
Amazing accommodation ran by true hospitality professionals, we absolutely loved our stay and we can highly recommend it. It truly is a lush secret garden, the surroundings are just so gorgeous, a real oasis of calm and beauty. The family room was very spacious, and very well-equipped. Breakfast and lunch were fantastic and some of the best we had during our entire trip. We had to adjust our plans slightly, and the manager was so helpful and accommodating which was much appreciated. The family running the property has a very international background and therefore speaks English perfectly which was very pleasant We would love to come back one day and stay longer. Our kids (6 & 12 loved it there as well and didnt want to leave) Highly recommended!

United StatesThis is a wonderful family run property that is perfect little oasis on the outskirts of Chiangmai. We loved the large bungalows that are perfect for families with kids who enjoy the lush garden. The family run feeling here is the highlight of our stay as you feel at home here and was perfect relaxing escape from the touristy center of town. Isabel and her family are very welcoming and put a lot of care into making their guests feel comfortable. We enjoyed the amazing breakfast their family cooked each morning as well as some of the generous and very reasonable dinners they offered each evening (including some great cocktails!). Getting around they have bikes you can use to ride through the village or if you are into catching big fish go to a nearby fishing park. Grabs are convenient to catch and only about 20 mins to the main parts of town. Having your own car is most convenient here as a base for day tripping around Chiangmai area. Highly recommended place to stay for exploring Chiangmai and enjoying a relaxing friendly environment.

United KingdomThe only issue we had was getting a grab/taxi to the resort as it was a little further out!
If I could give this 100 stars I would!! Isobel and her family are so kind and accommodating! We absolutely loved the villa and its furnishing and felt comfortable and at home. The beds were really comfy as well with A/C in the room. The resort is really peaceful with the pool and there’s are bikes you can use to go to other local towns. It was really nice to stay somewhere slightly away from the busy centre. The breakfast spread was absolutely amazing as well and included fresh eggs, fruit, pancakes and so much more! There was a football table, a pool table and plenty of books to read. I had a reaction to a couple of mosquito bites and Isobel and her family went above and behind to make sure I was okay and had everything I needed. We stayed over Christmas and it was really special!
