Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsStaff was not very welcoming. Cleaners opening your door without knocking. Stuff got missing from the room. Room was tiny, too small to be comfortable. We got one on 3rd floor with no lift and no warning so if this is an issue you better communicate with the hotel beforehand.
The location. Rooftop view. Breakfast included but they stopped service at 10.10 while it says 10.30 on the room.

United KingdomSmall and busy little hotel. Great location in the middle of everything, so a short walk to many places. Rooms were small, but quiet which was a great surprise considering how much activity there was outside. Comfortable beds. Breakfast was plentiful and set out buffet style with lots of items. The bar area is very attractive and great for spending a few hours. The pool is a walk away and looked lovely, though we did not manage to use it.

GermanyProbably the best place to stay on the island. Excellent restaurant, too- the rooms can be a bit noisy, but that‘s due to the overall vibrancy of St. Louis. Some rooms are very small and dark, ask for a room with a window.

Lovely breakfast, coffee etc. Very charming property and the main sitting area by the bar is very well done. Bathrooms are updated. The a/c and fan worked quietly and perfectly. The hotel overall has an old colonial charm to it and the location is perfect. Parking spot is also super helpful

GeorgiaThe wi-fi was extremely unreliable. The shower unit leaked into the rest of the bathroom area. The hotel does not provide complimentary bottles of drinking water.
The breakfast selection is good. Breakfast starts at 0600, which is ideal for organising day trips away from St Louis. The bar and restaurant have a pleasant ambience. There are several cafes and restaurants nearby.

United KingdomThere was no availability of double room and we were given a twin room: even when pushing the beds next to each other is far from comfortable. The room looks old school and could do with some renovation (forget the "it's part of the charme" of the hotel... it could really do with some love): bathroom has no window makes the room smell like dump after shower. Beddings makes the room look even older (you can see form pictures). The floor of the room would be so much better if it was in wood, rather than tiles. Restaurant slightly overprices (glad we discovered restaurant right next door for the second day). Roof terrace too quiet and windy to be even considered for either breakfast of a night cup. Breakfast is ok (continental breakfast, with possibility of getting omelette)
Nice colonial hotel, very central position. I can see why it has so many good reviews, but somehow overrated (see what I didn't like). The bar has a really nice setting. Staff was really nice and helped us find transport back to Dakar (Dem Dikk was fully booked and private cars extremely expensive - but they advices on which transport to use - minivan - and the recommendation was spot on).

United KingdomI'm absolutely amazed that this hotel has such a low average rating because my wife and I absolutely loved our stay. The staff were superb, epitomised by the security officer running down the pitch dark street at 6am in the morning to help find us a taxi so that we didn't miss our early morning bus to Dakar. The restaurant and bar areas are absolutely gorgeous; a wonderful colonial hotel vibe. It was a joy to dine and drink in this hotel. Our room was very nice, the location is perfect and the staff were really great in the restaurant, bar and front desk. This to me was a proper 4-star hotel experience. If I ever return to Saint Louis, I will definitely stay here again. Many thanks 🙏

South AfricaThe toilet was positioned a bit strangely with no leg room in front so had to sit sideways ;-) For me this was no issue, but not sure if a larger guest would struggle.
The absolute best and most affordable hotel in Saint-Louis! My colleagues stayed at other hotels and they could not even hold a candle to Hôtel La Résidence for the same price (and one was actually even more expensive). Perfect location, quiet and peaceful, spotlessly clean with all amenities, super comfy bed, amazing aircon, excellent wifi, extremely safe, fantastic breakfast, and wonderful, helpful staff. Would 100% recommend this hotel!

SenegalThe room was way too small for a double. Circulation inside it was difficult. There is some maintenance to be done in the bathroom (nothing major but can bother you a bit). The reception in the morning (probably busy) made some mistakes, forgot to ask for cleaning when they said they would. They also said they would give us a mop (as the bathroom had few minor leaks near the WC and the joint of the glass panel was leaking too) but forgot about it.
Some people were helpful. Cleaning staff is friendly. Dinner was good except some dishes. The decoration is beautiful.

The breakfast was lovely with omlettes, fruit, cheese, meats, bread and crepes. The hotel itself had alot of character and the staff were very attentive. The man on reception actually arranged for me to get euros changed and got them delivered which was really helpful. The decor was pretty cool and there was a big TV in the bar

SwitzerlandI think that the price is overcharged for the tiny room, which was not giving me the impression of being clean. The toilet was so small even me (I have a normal size/weigh) could hardly use it. The WC was almost falling off (and I am not heavy). The restaurant/bar and lounge area are nice but the rest needs to be improved or the price reduced.
