Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomRoom rather cramped, small and stuffy. Bed wasn't very comfortable. In summer during a heat wave, the room could have done with air conditioning; alas, even the fan that was supplied didn't work! Shared bathroom and kitchen also rather small and cramped.
Perfect location in the middle of Koper old town, a few minutes' walk from Titov Trg yet also near to bus stops serving Piran and other intteresting local destinations. Flexible about late check-in.

Bosnia and HerzegovinaIt would be good that there are clothespins to hang up towels for drying.
Location in the center of the city close to bakery, supermarket, pharmacy, and bus station. Beds and pillows were comfortable, the room was clean. There is a small, shared kitchen with basic dishes which gives you opportunity to cook simple meals. Wi-fi was excellent. Having in mind that there was a shared bathroom, it was rather clean (it depends also on guests and how they keep it clean). The host Tanja was very kind. As this is a hostel, it was very well equipped and comfortable.

GermanyThe only drawback for me was the fact that the room door was difficult to lock and that there was only one roll of toilet paper per person. Otherwise I was absolutely satisfied. The cleanliness and service was perfect.
I have traveled to many European countries and have seen many hostels. Hostel Martin definitely fulfills its purpose for a stay of a few days. I had a single room and was there for 6 nights.

UkraineThe hostel is not suitable for long-term stays. There isn't even an electric kettle in the kitchen, although it is shown in the promotional photos on Booking.com. Making coffee or tea takes a lot of time because you have to heat water on an electric stove in a mug. There is no option to leave your luggage before check-in or after check-out. There is only one mirror on the entire floor (for 4 rooms!), which is very inconvenient. It's very bad that there is no staff present at the hostel all the time. What also struck me is that there is only one trash bin in the room, so you have to carry the kitchen trash to your room. These people haven’t heard of waste sorting! I was lucky to get clean bedding only after a week of stay, and I had to prove that I had really been staying there for 7 days. I'm used to cleaning my room daily, but there was nothing to clean the floor with. If the owners were interested in guests spending their entire vacation here and coming back again, they would equip the hostel with dryers, at least one per floor. There is no hairdryer, no iron, or ironing board. I also dream of having a washing machine, of course, a paid one. I would gladly return and invite friends and my family if someone listened to my comments. It was also very unpleasant to hear upon check-in that it's cheap for such conditions. It's not cheap, and I didn't bargain; I paid the booking price. Even the city tax was higher than on Booking.com. Budget options should also be comfortable. Currently, this is a one-night stay option, not for a longer stay.
Great Location! It's not a beachfront location as stated on Booking.com, but it's quite close to the city beach, and the walk there is pleasant. The hostel is located right next to Muda Gate and the charming Prešeren Square with the Venetian Da Ponte Fountain, in a narrow alley within a similarly narrow historic stone building, so everything inside is as miniature as Slovenia itself. My window on the top floor overlooked the beautiful rooftops of old Koper. Overall, the hostel is very clean and well-maintained, all the appliances and plumbing work perfectly, the bedding and towels are not new but of good quality, and there are plenty of dishes. The mirrored dragon on the ceiling above the stairs was simply enchanting. Everything is nearby: the FlixBus stop, many other stops, the market, Mercator, and a wonderful bakery that is open on Sundays.

SwedenI tend to travel and book hostels. Hostel Martin is one of them where I had a small room at the front (view on the yellow wall from the neighbour house) and with shared facilities, even a small kitchen. It is right in the old city centre, hard to find as it all is narrow streets. Best way to find it is to ask for the pub next to it: Lord Byron. Easy also for an evening drink. Sports shown, popular place. Koper is the harbour of Slovenia, so if you like to watch 300 metres container vessels or cruise ships. Something for nerds like me. It is popular for boulevard tourism with lots of terraces.

HungaryThe phone and personal contact does not speak English -- it's good that I know some German and some basic Italian. No problem came out of that but it threw me for a loop. Closing the outer door requires some force (or using the key, which was tricky as during checkout we had to leave the key in the room door). It does not have immediate parking, so moving in and out was a bit of a chore.
The location is fantastic, it's in the old town, but not at the center so it's on a quiet side street. Parking is nontrivial, but it's not that far from a parking lot that 's not too expensive (btw, having the Easypark app in Slovenia is a MUST if you go there by car). The facilities are basic but adequate. The room and the hostel itself is clean. And the nearby jasmine bushes are fantastic!

SloveniaShared kitchen is always as tidy as other guests leave it after cooking... Difficult to change, but that's how it is. But - it was not dirty, but just not as tidy as you would expect it to have it at home... ))

United StatesThere were very limited kitchen utensils (a tea kettle would be super helpful). The room is extra small, basically great just to crash. It does have a table and wardrobe and a night stand. No view whatsoever. It has really poor noise insulation.
Koper is rather small but still the location of the hostel is amazing 🤩 close to everything! I loved that. The lady that checked me in was really nice (I used Google translate to communicate)

GermanyWe can hear what others are doing. It is very near to the next building. It is suggested to bring eyes pad (the curtain is thin) and noise insulation earplugs with you for good sleeping.
The location is excellent. Everything can be reached within walking distance. The hostel shows the typical characters of building in Slovenia. Simple cooking utensils and equipments are provided for sharing within 4 rooms. Simple and quick cooking is possible. The staff cannot speak English but friendly.

EstoniaThe refrigerator in the room did not get cold, food had to be stored in the common refrigerator. The opposite house was so close that the curtain had to be in front all the time. Staff does not speak any language other than Slovenian. toilet paper was placed in the room, every time you went to the toilet you had to take your roll with you - it's inconvenient, it would be better to have the rolls in the toilet

GermanyRoom clean. But you cannot manage how others treat the common spaces (like kitchen) which depends on the responsibilities of others - so it changes with your temporary neighbours..
