A quirky historical building, fun to stay for a night or two
    • Leisure trip
    • Solo traveller
    • Twin Room
    • Stayed 1 night

There were no towels - paper or cloth in any of the bathrooms. I know we had towels in the rooms, but I didn't always remember to take it. I was in the annex of 5 rooms. There were no glasses in the room or the bathroom to take a drink of water. There were no tea or coffee facilities. There was 1 toilet and 1 bathroom with a shower between the 5 rooms, some of which had 3 or more beds in them. It wasn't a problem when I was there, but it could be. This is a comfortable hotel, not a luxury hotel. There was one coat hanger in the room, and 1 set of drawers. There was no wardrobe.

The location is great. I had a lovely room overlooking the water with an old tiled stove (not functioning). It was clean and warm and very comfortable. The breakfast was good and the check in with a code for the door was easy. I very much enjoyed my stay and would stay again. There was a small sitting room in the annex, which was nice. This is a comfortable hotel, not a luxury hotel. I liked the quirkiness of the accomodation.

Do be aware that you need to get another ferry from Vaxholm to the castle. This isn't a bad thing, just an fyi. We brought everything we needed for a picnic dinner on the island which was actually magical.

It was lovely and quiet in the castle at night and it was very fun to stay in a castle. The breakfast was excellent. The staff were invisible and efficient. I didn't interact with anyone, not at check in or check out, but everything was ready and clean. The food at breakfast kept being topped up and cleared up. It was quite remarkable.

Didn't realise wasn't part of the mainland so was very expensive to keep travelling there and back. We are a family of 4 so it was about £35 return trip each time. It wasn't very clear that this was going to be the case. We definitely won't be returning for3ngts again.

    Very quiet and peaceful location

Have an adventure in real castle, with ok services, access by boat.

    • Family Room with Sea View
    • Stayed 2 nights

Room was not cleaned in detail, some leftovers under beds from earlier customer, towels forgotten day one, day two we got them. Boat trip, though very short, was challenging to get reliable information. First evening the boat operator had technical problems and cancellations. Phone service queu over 40mins!!! We got help from very kind locals boating us over with their private boat.

Location in old castle is excellent. Room was nice, simple, one small window to the sea. Toilets are in corridor, clean. Breakfast was fine, no excess, but we were happy with it. No services in the evening, so take own picnic with, very nice to sit outside at the water in the evening.

I hadn't clocked shared showers and toilet facilities - it wasn't an issue, but worth others knowing before they book to say. And there were no in room tea/coffee making facilities which is unusual these days. There were facilities downstairs to make drinks with your own ingredients - which again, is useful to know BEFORE you get there.

What fun to stay in an old fortress! An unusual location and space, but good. The rooms are lovely and we had a sea view which was great! Breakfast was simple, but plentiful and tasty. Beautiful breads!!! And fridge space was handy too. The ferries needed a bit of planning, but were regular and easy, so we didn't need to use the taxi boats which was great.

The bathrooms were clean and spacious. Maybe if more people were staying there could be a wait.

The venue is impressive and the room was cosy and atmospheric. It was fun catching the boat and being in the fortress overnight

Nothing - it was all great

The location was amazing and the breakfast lovely. As we were the only people staying at the Kastellet, we didn't interact with staff (who left the keys and breakfast for us daily).

It is really hard to travel from and to the island. Especially at night. Thought to get a taxi when we came from a concert at 11 pm, but they just don't answer the phone or have no boat available. It is also important to know that each trip you have to pay. Taxis will be expensive - up to 60-70 Euros for 5 minutes in the night. Breakfast was nice, but don't come late. Fruits and coffee might be gone 15 minutes before they close

Extraordinary location and a lot of things open 24 hours, like the tower with stunning views. Great piqueniqye areas. Nice walk around. Nice breakfast and you can sit outside. Experience sleeping in a castle is great POL tour was the best travel experience with a decent price.

Room smelled a bit dusty, and there was a lamp in the room that would turn off and on at random intervals.

Very cool to stay next to the fortress. Very cute decor inside and staff were friendly when we saw them for breakfast in the morning.

The only negative point is that the B&B is only reachable by boat from Vaxholm and the price is quite high for such short trip (122 SEK for 1 person, both ways, for 2 minutes of boat trip).

The breakfast was good and the room was clean and comfortable.

Overall stay was good. Although there's room to improve the entrance to the castle (e.g. some gardening, removing weeds, etc.). This could help in uplifting the face and first impression of the place.

A unique experience of staying in a castle in a tiny island in the Stockholm archipelago. The quiet grounds make for an interesting and calm stay, esp. after the last boat has left. Rooms are quiet, comfortable and minimally furnished. Bathrooms are shared, which were clean and tidy. Breakfast is an open buffet with local food items. The staff were extremely helpful.

During check-in, our keys were missing, so it had to be solved via phone at the place.

Historical exclusive location, nice view, great for walks and enjoying the view of the ferries and boats coming and going. Breakfast was good, and shared bathrooms worked well and were clean. Room was very classic and with an interesting history.

Although it was nice to stay in a castle, the transportation to VAXHOLM was minimal and very expensive. There was no staff available at the b&b which made it impersonal. We would have appreciated a sink in the room.

Getting there with several big heavy suitcases is difficult because of the gravel floor. A small path, woooden or tarmac, where suitcases could be rolled on would be great, if it were possible to put. The coffee at breakfast was really not good and a bit more variety of breads and some sweet options would be very good.

The surroundings are beautiful and the staff nice
