How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewGreat location and nice breakfast. We stayed in the family loft which was nice and spacious.
The family loft room is spacious but is a bit outdated. The kitchen facilities were ok but the fridge needed an extra clean on arrival due to some broken eggs having been left inside, but this was promptly dealt with. It would be great if there was more cutlery and glasses provided (there were no forks and limited cups). The shower was quite small, but to be expected in such an old building.

Verified reviewIn the old town next to the botanical garden, a lovely location. A fine old house, we were in the stables which were comfortable. Breakfast was great, a real experience. Staff helpful and friendly.

Verified reviewThe breakfast was great, The one th for the water that really tastes weird/not good.
It was extremely hot in our room; much hotter than outside. We asked the staff why and they did not seem to know. We think that the hot water tank must have been located next to our room but the person at the reception seemed to say that there were hot pipes running under each room (this might be true but our room was exceptionally hot despite of the fact that we kept the curtains closed all day to avoid the room heating up). We also thought that the room was small and not modern at all (we realise that it is an old building but the shower and toilet had clearly not been renovated for a long time). Moreover, they made us pay extra for a baby bed (300 SEK). They had told us beforehand by messages, but it should have been clearer at the time of the reservation and payment of the room. For all these reasons, we thought that this place was overpriced.

Verified reviewMost amazing location, friendly staff. Stayed in room 511 which was a nice room. Nice breakfast.
First day cleaning was forgotten and overall quality of cleaning could have been better. Staff friendly on the feedback and effort to step up.

Verified reviewThe breakfast was high quality - if not super varied Staff was always attentive and resolved our requests quite quick The parking is outdoors but there is a fair bit of shade
The room was very tight, unfortunately. It made it a bit uncomfortable No AC, and it was quite warm and humid. We had the fan on almost at all times

Lack of restaurant at the hotel and that they didn't have someone in reception all hours.

Verified reviewLovely old school hotel in Visby old town, right next to the botanical garden and the old city walls. Short walk to the main square. Small-ish but nice breakfast selection. Great views from the terrace. Staff were helpful and friendly.
We had a terrace room which was accessed via steep stairs. The door of the room opens outward onto a very narrow landing and the access to the terrace itself is by climbing through a window 😄 We were fine with all that bit anyone less able or carrying a lot of luggage might struggle.

Verified reviewVery good location, calm street, very close to the sea, botanikal garden. Beautiful building, very good breakfast. Beautiful garden and sea view!
All was good. The only thing that might be a bit better is cleaning - we stayed 4 nights and there was no any cleaning. If you are sensitive to that, be prepared to clean yourself))

Verified reviewLovely little place near a public garden and within walking distance of most of the portion of Visby within the wall. We had our own spacious balcony with a view of the hotel's garden. The rooms were simple but quite comfortable and clean.
Narrow stairs typical of an old building were difficult for my mother to negotiate frequently, so if you have a difficult time with stairs ask for a room on the ground floor. The restaurant isn't open in the evening and it's a few blocks to a pub. These were minor issues for me.
Thank you for the review! I'm very happy that you enjoyed your stay. Sorry if it was an inconvenience for you with the stairs. Hope to see you back again!

Verified reviewExcellent location. Big spacious accommodation with two rooms for two adults and one child. Added bonus area was a self catering kitchenette area. Friendly staff. Perfect location to explore Visby and the medieval week.
The decor is very dated and the kitchen area, whilst great to have cooking facilities, no pans, tea towel and space to use them. However, this was outweighed by everything else and we would happily stay again.
Thank you for the review, I'm happy that you enjoyed your stay with us. Hope to see you again!
