“A well-maintained and carefully designed hotel converted from a yalı (summerhouse) once owned by the local wealthy family of Kumcu. Everyone here is so welcoming and makes you feel at home! Kemal Bey introduced the salon, old dining room and every item that the current owner collected over the years. There should be an original imperial decree (ferman) ! Also there is a good collection books (academic books in archeology, fine arts, history), extremely helpful to learn the history of İznik (at least). Have to mention that some of the articles in the edited volume (İznik: Tarih Boyunca) is very difficult to get in the English world.
Pelin hanım is a marvelous and thoughtful chef, she prepares everything here herself. The menu changes seasonally. Don’t miss the catfish dish, as the fish is from the İznik göl.
Interesting fact: you’ll see the family tomb of the Kumcus if you visit Çandarlı Hayreddin Paşa türbesi (exactly next to the Grand Vizier’s tomb) in the civil cemetery outside Lefke Gate — supposedly the townsmen would like to become the Grand Vizier’s protégés in the afterlife.”
“Amazing Amazing !!Stayed one nt as we were travelling , but would stay again. We booked on the day and got a very good deal. Unfortunately we didn’t get to try the restaurant as were exhausted, however walking past food looked delicious. Room was very spacious and lovely decor. Biscuits in room tea/coffee making facilities. Breakfast buffet style offering a lovely array of local food .. very tasty.”
“Wonderful hotel and wonderful staff.
Clean and cozy.
Daily cleaning and water refilling.
The staff helped us with any questions we had.
I recommend👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻”
“The worst hotel experience ever.
The place was filthy, with no windows – you literally feel like you’re suffocating. The noise was unbearable all night, I couldn’t get any sleep, and to make things worse, the shower didn’t even work so I couldn’t wash. I even heard mice in the walls. The food was spoiled – apart from the jam and butter, everything else was inedible. Absolutely horrible conditions. I trusted the rating and made a huge mistake. This hotel doesn’t deserve even one star.”
“The location of the hotel was amazing; walking distance to all the major places of interest and restaurants. It was also very quiet.
The staff too were wonderful; very helpful. The receptionist even walked me to a shop to help me buy something I needed. 5 stars!
Breakfast was a surprise inclusion, and even though everything on offer wasn't exactly what I'd normally have for breakfast, there were lots of options.”
