Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PolandWe loved our stay at The Grove Houses! The old villa with beautiful furnishings has got a truly unique atmosphere. One can properly unwind in those tastefully arranged, stylish art-deco spaces. Everything was super clean, the linen smelt fresh, the beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was varied and very tasty. It is possible to have breakfast on the balcony, and - a big asset - guests can stroll around a 4-hectare garden with rare trees and rose bushes. The property has got a safe parking. Even though we came for one night and arrived in the evening, we were made welcome and rested very well. Special thanks go out to Geral who waited for us and then very kindly showed us round! All the staff at The Grove Houses are super nice and responsive. They speak very good English, too. We hope to revisit this place before long.

United Arab EmiratesThere is no safe to keep your valuables.
The most amazing thing about The Grove Houses is the staff. They are so lovely and impressive that you feel it's your house and they are your family. Second is the location, it's up on hill area that is full of big trees and away from the city crowd and noise. However, it is only 20 min from city center. You can walk in the jungle and enjoy taking a lot of photos. Breakfast is excellent, the staff is ready to bring/make what you want. The rooms, cleanliness and facilities are all also very good. My children, after having 4 days there, they all wanted to stay more.

I liked everything! The house is over 100 years old and is maintained beautifully. The gardens behind the main home are worth a stroll around. There are small, caves to explore and gorgeous plants, trees and flowers. The staff is delightful and very helpful. Plus the breakfast is good.

NetherlandsThe house is beautiful and historical in a fabulous setting on a hill surrounded by wooded gardens with intriguing caves and rocks and plenty of nature. We stayed in the garden annexe which was tastefully decorated and well-equipped. We were given a warm welcome by the friendly and helpful great great granddaughter of the original owner. Highly recommended. My only regret is that we didn't stay longer!

IrelandNot a single thing!
This was an exceptional five star 'hotel' experience in a beautifully renovated house. The attention to detail in the renovation, the interiors and the presentation has to be admired and in my case was fully appreciated. A wonderful experience in Penha. A plentiful fresh breakfast was looked after by Sara with a caring smile. Best of all you, after breakfast you see Penha which is on your doorstep and then travel down to Guimaraes.

PortugalMy only suggestion for improvement might be to locate a mirror across from the exit of the parking lot: pulling into the road from the parking lot is a bit hazardous, as there is very little visibility... a mirror to check for approaching traffic would make the lot a safer choice.
We were welcomed and looked after beautifully by staff members Beatriz and Sara, and also had the pleasure of meeting Dona Antonia and her son Miguel. Breakfast was superb, our room was charming, we really enjoyed exploring the extensive and beautiful grounds of the property. Additionally, the location right next to the Sanctuary of Penha was lovely. We recommend taking the Teleforica (cable car) down and back as a scenic and expedient way to get to the center of town. The level of warm hospitality of The Grove Houses was exceptional! They made us feel so welcome, special and like extended members of family.

PortugalThe place is a carefully (and with a lot of taste) restored family estate that is located in the national park. We were lucky to have a bouquet of roses in the room — a very sweet touch. The breakfast was delicious and beautifully served. I asked for the tour of the rooms and can recommend staying in the daughter’s room in the main house. Best view!
