Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaAbsolutely adored this hotel. Marta was wonderful. Breakfast was great, but the best bit was the gardens surrounding and how tranquil it was to stay here. Really beautiful. Unlike other hotel experiences as was incredibly relaxing all The time and felt very peaceful.

United KingdomThe only part that could be improved personally would be that the bed was too hard for me, and the pillows were very puffy. Outside of the hotel, the roads surrounding it are quite steep and bumpy (cobbled), so just be careful if you have any accessibility/ health issues. Though we were able to order taxis and ubers/ bolts to stop right outside the door.
From the moment my boyfriend and I walked through the doors, we knew it was going to be special and we were right, there's not a bad word to say about the Lost Garden. The room was beautiful, every little detail was taken care of as if we were the only couple staying there and the room was spotless. The breakfast was simply amazing, such a broad choice (pancakes, fruit, cooked and cold meats, pastries, and cakes) and the scrambled eggs were honestly the best I've ever had! There were a few days during our stay where we had to be up and out before breakfast had started and they had put together a small packaged breakfast for us the night before so we could have something to eat before going. The pool was amazing, so quiet and peaceful with an incredible view overlooking the Duoro River and the edges of Porto, I love their approach to sustainability and environmental care too, as alot of their herbs, spices, fruits etc. are grown right there in the garden. Everyone working there was lovely, and Marta and Sonia were exceptional hosts and always there to help when needed.

IrelandNothing. Perfection.
This is a hidden gem in Porto. We were so warmly greeted by Sonia with our first of many Porto tonics! The room was lovely, very well equipped with a gorgeous bathroom and shower with plenty of hot water. The handmade soap was a lovely extra touch. The bed was so comfortable I had 8 hours unbroken sleep every night of our stay. The breakfast was brilliant, I especially enjoyed the fresh orange juice, granola, and the eggs topped off with chives grown in the garden. The hotel is so quiet, surrounded by nature and a fabulous garden and pool. The views over the river Douro were breathtaking. Yet we were only 30 minutes walk to the centre of Porto, or a quick Uber ride. We were lucky enough to spend St Joao's night with Sonia, Frederick, Marta and their families and friends. It's a night we will never forget. Viva "El Presidente" and his tasty sardines! I would highly recommend the Lost garden if you appreciate good food, a warm welcome in a small boutique hotel. We loved it. We'll be back. Thank you.

IrelandWonderful hosts, Martha and Sonia. Extremely kind and who went out of their way to help us after we had got the dates wrong. They found a solution. In Gaia, on the other riverside from Porto, which we found to be less overrun with tourists. A brisk walk along the beautiful river bank and over the bridge into Porto city centre. Delightful views over the river from this small boutique hotel with the personal touch. Delicious breakfast, wonderful comfy bed. Our only gripe (and its a very small one) is the lack of space for suitcases or a writing table/with chair in the bedroom. Otherwise, highly recommendable for those tourists who like some peace and quiet in the evening...away from the tourist hordes that throng Porto

The location is excellent it’s a lively walk into the centre. The morning view is excellent and it is very calming listening to the morning bird songs.

IsraelThis hotel was one of the best we have ever visited. The two sisters Sonia and Marta were so friendly and helpful, the breakfast was delicious, the bed was very comfortable, the decor was aesthetically pleasing, and the location was perfect. It was quiet and peaceful with a lovely pool and only 15 mins from downtown Porto.

CanadaI feel like I was very lucky to find this place as it only opened 3 weeks ago. The view is fantastic, the owner was very friendly. The rooms were great, clean and comfortable, and the breakfast the next day was one of the best that I've had since I moved to Portugal 2 years ago. On arrival they served welcome drinks, and the lady that greeted us spoke excellent English, as well as Portuguese. I highly recommend this hotel, and I plan on visiting again soon.
