Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesDuring my stay, a large group of people were staying long-term at the hotel. They all cooked daily, occupied almost the entire kitchen area, and used the terrace for storage, hanging, and drying their clothes, which made it difficult to access and enjoy those common areas. Stairs only in the hotel!! Many more stairs in the surrounding areas for sightseeing.
Beautiful historic home in a great location, quiet and calm, walking distance to many attractions, churches, bars, and the center. The room was comfortable, clean, and spacious. Very helpful and friendly staff. Reuben made great recommendations on Fado nights and dining experiences. He also made the reservation for me, so I could secure a spot in a popular Fado location. Offer Female only shower and bathroom.

BermudaThe one person i did not like was Anna. Heavily tattooed angry feminist. I tried so hard to be friends with her but she always seemed to hold me in contempt. Friendly at first but then would say something to try to get under my skin. She has 'daddy issues' and an anger at men that always came out in our conversations. I was kind to her but she interpreted that as weakness. She is, sadly, not a nice person.
The owner, Eugene, is a good man. He helped me with many uncommon problems. He is trustworthy and kind and someone I think of as a friend. Reuben was my constant morning shift friend. My 'little brother' who made Serenata feel like home. Enish was an evening sweet soul. I hope she makes money doing audio readings of books for children becausr she has such a nice calm kind voice. Marianna was sweet, kind and polite. Always a delight.

JapanOne of shower booth had drainage issue, so my clothes ware perfectly wet. Common shower room seems to fit for 165cm+, washing face with the small basin was a difficult for around 150cm. Then I made wet around the place every time.
Beautiful old building with some historical notes on the walls. Big sofa in common area. Staff ware very helpful and friendly. Professional bed making technique. Real hot water in shower booths.

CanadaThe beds were a little springy for my liking. The street parking (off site) was 5 mins walk away through a very narrow one way road, so do not take a big car to the place. The hotel/hostel does not have an elevator (want apparent or didn't realize while booking) and going up and down 6 flights of stairs with luggage was a little tough for older people. But will I return? FOR SURE!!!
The staff were excellent, the location was great, the option of breakfast and a bar open till 10pm was great. But next time, I'll take a lower floor and a suite instead of a dorm (none were available for me this time).

Australiabreakfast could have been better. parking is hell - ads say accom has parking but it doesn't - they point you to where you might find parking somewhere nearby. Thats ok - but not what we expected.
great location for exploring the old town and university. comfy room. fabulous and interesting old building. it is a combo of individual rooms and hostel accoms. We were in single room. not cheap but nice. has its own bar and snacks for sitting on the patio in the afternoon / evening which was delightful.

ItalyThe hotel has only room with wc and showers in common, which is fine for the price and knowing that in advance: unfortunately only 1 wc was available and all the rest out of service. In the square in front of the hotel there was a party that went on until 3 in the morning. Bad luck.
Situated in the centre of Coimbra, near the old Cathedral, Serenata Hotel is the right place to stay to visit the city. Ruben, the receptionist was empathetic and helpful. The room was clean and the breakfast as expected.
