How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewGreat location - a little out of town (10 minutes walk) but this meant we got to see parts of Olhao that we might not have otherwise. Great value. Spotlessly clean and lovely breakfast. Really nice shaded area outside where I was able to do a couple of hours work on my laptop each day before going sightseeing. Would definitely recommend and already planning to return.

Verified reviewWhat works well: The location is excellent. It’s just a 20-minute walk to the nearest ferry, 12 minutes to the town center, and very close to the train station — making it convenient to explore the region. The host, Claudia, is amazing. She’s extremely friendly and happy to guide you with local maps, sightseeing spots, and things to do around Faro. One highlight was when we had to leave early for a flight — Claudia kindly packed sandwiches for us to take along.
Things to consider: This accommodation is ideal for a short-term stay (around 2 nights). I wouldn’t recommend it for longer stays (more than 3 nights) based on our 7-day experience. Don’t expect daily room service or toiletries as you would in a full-service hotel. This is more of a “bed & breakfast” setup with a minimalistic approach. Breakfast is served only from 9 am to 10 am, so you’ll need to plan your daily activities accordingly if you include breakfast in your package. Light sleepers should be aware that it can get a bit noisy after 11 pm when guests walk around.

As the name suggests Roaz de Bandeira is a Guesthouse, a bed and breakfast accommodation. Our service is exactly what is published on our Booking.com page and as provided in your contract and for which you have paid. Including cleaning frequency, linen changes, check-in and check-out times as well as breakfast times. To maintain the high level of quality of our breakfast recognized by our guests, it is not possible to make it available before 9:00 am. We depend on our suppliers schedules. Fresh bread is purchased each morning, as is the case with naturally leavened bread, which comes from, in our opinion, the best bakery in town. Most properties that offer breakfast from 6:30 am use packets, pre-made or frozen. We chose not to do so. But we always have a solution as long as we are informed in advance, as you can confirm with the breakfast package as mentioned when you had to leave early for the flight. Hygiene products are available for all reservations in dispensers and not in single doses and replenished whenever necessary. Perhaps you had not noticed. These are essential measures for a sustainability commitment that, in your words, you appreciated. Things to consider: Perhaps it was a Hotel and not a Bed and Breakfast that you were looking for for your long 7-day vacation. For this and in addition to the detailed descriptions that you can consult and in case of persistent doubts, we could have clarified things even better if you had asked us these questions in good time before arriving, as you did for so many other questions also mentioned on our Bookin.com page. Roaz de Bandeira Guesthouse is naturally a very quiet place. The noise level also depends on the awareness of each guest, both those who arrive later and those who leave earlier. Breakfast was good, especially the fresh orange juice which we enjoyed in her pretty garden. Claudia gave us lots of tips about the local area and was kind enough to provide a packed breakfast for our early departure. Accommodation was well located, very close to the trains and buses and a nice walk to the harbour. Thank you!

Verified reviewComfortable space overall. I had a nice room with private bathroom. The shared kitchen was spacious and well equipped with cookware. Host was very hospitable at the daily breakfasts. Nice people were staying here, seems to attract good people. Really nice small garden with both sun and shade and comfy seats. Most people chose to have breakfast at the outside tables when was there for a few nights. It was relatively easy to park on the street all day, night, or day for free within a block or two in April . It's a nice walk to the ocean and lots of restaurants to choose from. Lots of cute shops closeby also. Overall, a good place to stay in Algarve if you don't have a desire to be beachfront.
Bathroom didn't have much flat surface space to put toiletries. This is a house, so you can hear people in the hallways, but it's mostly quiet. Hot water in the shower took a little while to heat up at times but it did not ever run out, which was good!

Verified reviewThe property is very well organized, clean and with everything you need for your comfort, a nice patio where the breakfast is served and where you can spend relaxing time during the day or evening. Claudia and Luis are such nice people, we felt like they welcomed us into their home. From the first moment you can feel their love for Algarve and their unique city of Olhão, they know a lot about the nature, traditions and history of their region and they are happy to share it with you. Verified reviewClaudia was super helpful with advice and recommendations for things to do and places to eat. The house is lovely, especially the bedroom and the garden where Claudia served a fantastic breakfast.
The only small thing was the timing of breakfast - 9 to 10, which means you’ll miss it if you want an early start to the day eg for the 9/9.30 ferries to the Ria Formosa islands. Claudia provided a packed breakfast instead which was good but not as good as breakfast at the property.
