We absolutely loved our stay and would come back anytime! The location is perfect – you can easily explore by foot, but it’s also great for going around the island by car. Viriato shared really helpful tips on what to do and see. We felt very comfortable in our unit, and the bed was by far the best one we had during our whole trip. We also loved learning about the long tradition of the house – he explained its history to us, and it has been preserved as much as possible in its original state, which made our stay feel even more special. The garden is beautiful, and if you’re looking for peace and calm, this is exactly the right place.

We have spent 4 nights in Quinta das Hortensias and we have really enjoyed our stay! The house is beautiful, in a very calm and pristine location and Viriato, the owner, is a great host. Coming back home after a day full of hikes and just sitting in the beautiful garden was a real plus! Really recommended!

Bathroom perfectly clean and functional, but could do with an upgrade. Some traditional wicker furniture beautiful but not comfy.

Beautiful location in, as yet, unspoiled, peaceful part of the island. Great garden, charming and quirky chalet-type apartment, decorated with love, all necessary facilities provided and more, generous gifts of food and beverages from host - useful if without a car. Very friendly host with helpful advice.

Beautiful little boutique accommodation run by a family. The Host Viriato is very kind and thoughtful, and was attentive to anything we needed or asked about. The apartment we stayed at was well equipped had an equipped kitchen, and was very comfortable, with a beautiful view! We finished every day on the balcony enjoying the breathtaking views of the garden and the ocean. The breakfast included is in a nearby restaurant, and had a good variation of food and very kind staff.

It was a bit chilly inside while we were there, which we expected from an old, atmospheric house during rainy weather. Electric heater was provided though, as well as an air dehumidifier and plenty of blankets. On colder evenings when you can't sit outside it would have been nicer to have a more comfortable indoor sitting area/sofa.

The apartment has the most gorgeous setting, among a beautiful garden overlooking the sea. Inside there was lots of original character and the kitchen was very well equipped. Super-friendly and responsive host.

When we had trouble getting a rental car, they went out of their way to help us secure one, which was a huge relief. Their hospitality truly made this place feel like home. Such a lovely place :) we enjoyed our stay here a lot (and never wanted to leave the cozy terrace under the grapes/wine leaves...) The apartment (Fuchsia) was really nice and perfect for two people. Well equipped, spacious, light and cozy. You could tell that the exterior and the interior have been designed with great detail. And the ocean view, just perfect! Our host, Viriato, was so friendly & helpful! He gave us many useful tipps and information. I liked that he took the time to greet us personally and to show us the apartment. Arco de Sao Jorge is a rather quiet place and it's best to have a car here. For us it was really relaxing being "away" from the more touristy places and to enjoy the calm atmosphere here. We can highly recommend this apartment and would definitely come back here!
