Although the bed was very comfortable, the comforter was too warm for summer. Bathroom lacked shelf/cabinet space, and can use some upgrading. Attention to small details, like changing out frayed towels, coffee maker in the room, etc. would go a long way to make it feel more upscale.

It is a beautiful old house (originally built in the 17th century) with a fantastic view. Windows and doors are old style but functional. The owner Luis upgraded us to a large room with a view of the Chaves valley.

    Nothing! We enjoyed everything.

The Quinta was rural yet elegant! We loved the buildings and the details of centuries past! The grounds were well maintained and an evening walk of the property was very pleasant.

Nothing—I was very happy with everything.

I enjoyed an exceptional two-night stay at Quinta da Mata before heading on a road trip down the historic N2 highway. I was traveling with my small dog Millie, which is the main reason I chose this accommodation, but it was more than just dog-friendly. There are beautiful grounds to explore around the farm, a lovely pool and terrace, and a great comfortable bedroom in the old stone house. Though I hadn’t planned on it, I had dinner both nights there. The food was excellent and plentiful. I had enough leftovers each time to take for a picnic lunch the next day. Senhor Luis was very welcoming, and gave excellent suggestions about places to visit both in Chaves for my one day there, and for stops along the highway. I look forward to visiting again either on my own again or with friends.

Beautiful Quinta, bursting with character. Owner friendly and helpful. You could have dinner here and there is a bar. Our room was gorgeous, and comfortable. Mattress great. Plug in the bathroom sink. Wonderfully dog friendly. We hope to return and have already recommended it to friends.

The place had lots of steep steps but the host did have one wonderful room for older, less mobile people. The whole facility was cold.

Lovely old building. Host was wonderful in trying to meet your needs. The place was awesome to visit. Breakfast was wonderful. The host had a fire going in the fire pit at night with an outstanding view of the valley below.

    Nothing. Everything was superb.

This is a beautiful 17th Century farmhouse with panoramic views of Nantes and far exceeded our expectations. Our room was wonderfully decorated, spacious, clean and very comfortable. Our fabulous dinner consisted of 5 courses of traditional Portuguese dishes and was exceptional value for money. The staff were very helpful and the proprietor went out of his way to make us welcome and was very informative and obviously has a passion in providing an excellent stay for his guests.

What's not to love - we wished we had stayed for more than 1 night.

We found this delightful pet friendly hotel by default. We were travelling to Porto and had a flat tyre near Chaves, which needed replacement overnight. Everyone was so helpful so helpful with our predicament and we found d this hotel on Booking.com. Luis, the hotel owner welcomed us with open arms, showed us to the delightfully rustic hotel and room reflecting the rural setting. As we settled in, Luis bought us a Port & Tonic as we watched the sun set over the valley. He prepared a very tasty dinner accompanyied by a choice of wine. We kept pinching ourselves and counted ourselves very fortunate to have made this unplanned stop. Was so sad to leave in the morning to collect our car. But we'll be back - .... no doubt.

I really enjoy it! This is a gorgeous rural property! It has a nice pool, they do weddings and it even has its own chapel! Beautiful!

Great very fresh breakfast served by this wonderful lady who was amazing and provided all of my requests! Brought my own home cooked dog food which they refrigerated and I had access to it! I have stayed here for the past four times when I come to Chaves and I love the owner and the place is stunning, a gorgeous farm on a slight hill with a gorgeous view

There were some odd quirks to the rooms that might not suit everyone - e.g window going from the shower box to the bedroom in one room.

What an amazing place to stay! The 400 year old house has been lovingly restored and is full of quirky and characterful details. Luis gave us such a warm welcome, including some lovely wine. Breakfast was hearty and plentiful. We had the place mostly to ourselves and enjoyed relaxing in the living area by a cozy fire in the evening. We only regretted not having a chance to buy some wine or have dinner as our stay was quite short.

We were offered an upgrade, but not told until checking out, thatg we would be charged extra.

The traditional style and character of the Quinta and the views of the surrounding countryside. There were beautiful antiques and lamps, the bed was very comfortable and we had use of a kettle and the pool if we wanted. Breakfast was really good and available at a time to suit us. Luis was very helpful and booked us at the local restaurant, a short drive away.
