How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThis hotel has a lot of character, high beautiful ceilings, an amazing breakfast room, big wooden doors, and a romantic garden. It is located within the walking distance of the centre of Lisbon, such as cathedral and castle, and Tram 28 line is running past the hotel. As we were leaving early in the morning instead of breakfast, we were given pack ups, which included freshly made chocolate cake.
You can only pay by cash.

We stayed in July when the temperature was above 28°C, and unfortunately, there was no air conditioning. It was very uncomfortable to stay overnight or spend time in the room during the day. The only option was to open the windows, but since they faced a main street, the noise was extremely loud and made it difficult to sleep.

Verified reviewThe bed sheets and towels were clean, which I really appreciated. Breakfast was ok, though it lacked variety.
Unfortunately, the reality of this property is far from what is shown in the pictures. The place is outdated and clearly in need of renovation. The photos on Booking are heavily edited and do not reflect the actual condition. Upon arrival, I rang the bell several times, but no one came to the door. Thankfully, another employee happened to be entering the building, or I would have been left outside. Staff inside simply ignored the bell. Overall, this stay was not worth the money — poor value, misleading presentation, and a lack of basic hospitality. I will definitely not be returning.

On our arrival we expected to pay the holiday by card. We were informed at reception that their card machine had broken and they were now only accepting cash. Not sure how I would've paid for the holiday if I hadn't I then paid for it on Booking.com as the cash I had taken with me was for Spending money not to pay a hotel bill. 1- The shower rail was broken and when we asked about it they knew about it, but didn't know when it would get repaired so it was difficult to have a shower., for the whole week of our holiday. 2- The breakfast eating area although was nice was permanently full of flies which just put you off eating inside and the fact that flies could land on your breakfast every couple of minutes. 3- The bedroom door did not look properly so you had to use the key when you were in the room, not just a close the doors as it would just come open. 4- There were chairs and tables out on the balcony which were great however these were broken and shabby and if you could sit on them not very comfortable. 5- There was no air-conditioning apart from my fan in the ceiling. All this said it did not spoil our holiday

Our flight was delayed, and on May 16, 2025, I sent a detailed message about the delay, informing that we would be arriving around 1:00 a.m. on June 7. There was no reply. The only response we received was about what time we could check out. Today they asked again when we would arrive, so I sent the information again — and the flight had another delay. I updated them again, and this time no one responded at all. We had also booked a taxi through your service via booking.com, and everything went perfectly. When we arrived at the accommodation at 1:30 a.m., nobody replied to our messages. The only answer was that we should come to check in the next day. What is this supposed to mean??? I do not accept this kind of behavior and I am requesting compensation from the accommodation. This experience will absolutely be reflected in the review for this place! They left us outside on the street from 1:30 a.m., waiting for someone from the reception. We were lucky that around 4:00 a.m. some guests were leaving and kindly left the door open, so we could at least sleep on the stairs like stray cats!!! I wrote several messages and received no response — neither from the accommodation nor from booking.com!!!I don’t like that you are not communicating. I am filing a complaint and I will make this public! It will be reflected in your reviews and everyone will know about it. This is unacceptable and rude behavior!

Cockroaches in the room at night, pigeons and droppings all over the stairwell (probably due to the open garden), and a broken toilet flush. The host took no responsibility and gave no refund (didn’t answer calls or reply to emails.). Booking only refunded a tiny amount... We stayed 1 out of 2 nights and had to book a new place. Stressful, dirty, and not worth it. Photos are attached. Also, please check the area before booking, it is not the safest.
