This was our homebase for two weeks, longer than most other guests. We wanted to stay off the grid and somewhere peaceful. This place is truly the definition of quiet. Just nature and of course, the donkeys. Our host Dioclecio made us feel at home and communication was easy. We like roadtrips so having to drive to different parts of the island didn’t bother us. The Forest Bar down the hill serves great food and drinks. Mountain Eco Shelters is a gem and we highly recommend this place above everything else. Would rebook it without hesitation!

The following is not a criticism of the property, but useful tips for others: It’s useful to know that the nearby snackbar (which is a great place by the way) is open till 18:00. You’ll need to bring your own food if you arrive later. Google Maps took us the wrong way. The entrance to the park is on the ER 103, just follow that road.

The cottage is very cosy, beautiful surroundings, and great hiking opportunities nearby. The hammock is great for chilling. There’s a beautiful viewpoint, Pico Alto, very nearby.

There are multiple thrash bins for plastic, glass, metal, organic but not for general waste. This caused other guests to dump their general waste in the organic bin. I am used to separating trash but in the cabin there was only one bin so we made our own temporary containers for paper, plastic and organic. This is only a minor thing but it is one I would especially expect from an Eco Shelter.

The cabin on the mountain within a nature park could not have been better in this category. Dioclécio is a great host who responds quickly and helpfully. Don't forget to visit the friendly donkeys!

The shelter was exactly as shown in the pictures. Very comfortable! The location is great, there is a very good and low price restaurant that you can reach through a short walk. Dioclécio was very kind and gave us a few pieces of advice on what to do in the area. The position is strategic for PR1 and other trek routes. It has been an amazing stay, and we're looking forward to coming back. This place is pure beauty!

Shelter was very cold (december). Not enough closet space. Wifi didnt work.

Very quiet, calm and relaxing surroundings. Quartermasters are very friendly. Close to the mountains. Seemed private and romantic.

We liked everything! the stay has been amazing. the only downside is that having the car is compulsory but in any case we suggest to have a car to visit Madeira.

The location is great: the shelter are situated in a natural park which is a protected area: after 7pm it is exclusively for the guests. The owner is amazing: kind and welcoming, he helped us with everything.

The only thing I can think to improve this trip would be a toaster. We visited in what is essentially winter so it was a little chilly but if you've got warm socks and jumpers ypull be fine, we had a few blankets in the lodge and also a heater.

The lodge was gorgeous, the photos dont do either the inside or the outside any justice. It was so peaceful and outstandingly beautiful, I only wish we were staying longer.

We visited in January and it was slightly cold- there was a small electric heater in the lodge. We were prepared with warm clothing but just something to bear in mind if you go "out of season".

We had a really friendly and helpful reception. The lodges are perfectly situated if you want to explore the park. They were clean and comfortable and had everything you would need to cook a simple meal. Bathroom was lovely.

The owner was super kind and friendly, the island is beautiful and the park where the shelters are was very beautiful. We definitely recommend staying here and we’ll definitely will come back in the future!

We didn't like the fact that we came for only 3 nights. Location is great to explore the island but the place is so nice that it's worth to stay here a bit longer, just to enjoy the place and the nearby area. And the donkeys of course!

Everything was just perfect! We love every minute of our stay and definitely will come back again. Thank you so much ❤️
