Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceThe surroundings of Moinho da Areia are quite dusty and shabby, and the beach is not very clean. But you feel perfectly well in the house, with the magnificent view on the sea, and it's easy to swim if you want to.
We had a great stay at Moinho da Areia. The whole hotel was very comfortable and well decorated, and the view on Monte Verde beach fantastic. We never slept so close to the sea... Moreover, Cristina was very friendly and helpful at every stage : she's not only a nice host, but a great cook as well (thanks for the cakes !).

SwitzerlandRooms (and windows) a bit small for the prize - but its also the azores, part of the concept, and the uniqueness compensates for it :). Info: The kitchen is not thought for common use (besides coffee/tea etc).
Its really the perfect and unique boutique stay right at the sea. Nice architecture in room and house, quiet, great terrasse for breakfast and relax. Super nice staff (thanks to S&C).

United StatesAll positive feedback aside from having a place for more clothing storage would be nice.
This property stood out being very a clean, stylish and well-designed space. The attention to detail was seen every where from the towel hooks in the bathroom being made from up-cycled beach debris to exceptionally unique furniture choices. The ocean could not be any closer or more beautiful to view from the terrace or your room windows. The rooms are cleaned daily if you wish. The breakfast is amazing, with local fresh ingredients and made to order fresh juice, coffee, eggs and parfaits amongst other Azorean foods. The staff were so friendly, Cristina & Sophia, both glad to make any accommodations needed such as provided us a fan and a to go box of food for our early departure flight. We have a little welcome gift and departure gift. In hindsight, we were glad that we chose the north part of the island as our home base as it is much less crowded than Ponta Delgada but still central.

This quiet beachfront accommodation was a perfect base from which to explore this part of the island. The view from the deck (the sunset in particular) and the breakfast were amazing. Cristina's hospitality made the stay quite special.

SwitzerlandMoinho da Areia is a truly special place. The old mill has been lovingly renovated with a great sense of aesthetics and attention to detail. The rooms are decorated with art by local artists, the beds are very comfortable, and everything is spotlessly clean. Rooms are cleaned daily. The location is unbeatable…right by the ocean, with a beautiful terrace to enjoy the view and the sound of the waves. And the breakfast is absolutely sensational. Fresh, local and delicious products, beautifully presented. As a passionate coffee lover, the only tiny thing I could wish for would be a high-end espresso machine. But honestly, that’s just nitpicking..everything else was perfect. I was warmly welcomed and greeted every morning with a smile. I’ll definitely be coming back! Thank you for everything!

IsraelSince it’s really in the ocean there’s a bit of white noise of the ocean. We loved it, but some people may not.
Christina was amazing and made our stay as comfortable as it gets! She took care everything we needed, such an amazing experience to get such a personal feeling. The room was very clean and beautiful. We loved staying so close to the ocean. Location was great to get anywhere in the middle / east side of the island. Breakfast was simple and everything you need to start of the day.

United StatesLimited view from the room, which is understandable given the age and original use of the building. We were able to watch the sea from the balcony instead.
Great location, directly on the beachfront. Cozy room that was very clean and had almost everything we needed. The host, Christina, was extremely helpful, met us when we arrived, prepared breakfast helped us with several special requests. Easy parking and access to restaurants in town.

United KingdomUnique building, really well designed, but what really made the stay was Cristina and her hospitality. She was such a lovely presence to be around and the breakfast’s were excellent. As an added bonus the waves turned on when we were there and I could surf right outside the front door. Couldn’t ask for better.

United StatesWhat a gem of a place. It’s relatively new, and offers something so special that I imagine it will be difficult to book as time goes by. They have paid attention to all the details here. Beautifully renovated, very comfortable rooms, very welcoming experience, with Christina being so attentive and providing home baked treats. The location right on the beach is amazing. Easy, reserved parking right outside the hotel is a bonus!

GermanyThe beach is lovely, however swimming is not always possible due to riptides. There's more than enough parking, however, it felt a bit sketchy at night, as there were some random cars and people chilling in the parking lot.
We really enjoyed our stay here. We got a free upgrade, as we were the only guests for a few nights. The restored mill is beautifully designed with different artists designing individual artworks for each room. This gave the whole place an artsy, yet comfy vibe. From our window we could see the ocean, even if a bit worse than from the normal rooms downstairs. You could here the waves, which we found really relaxing. They also provided earplugs, in case the waves are too loud for you. The breakfast was nice with fresh fruit every day and different pastry.

Moinho da Area is a beautiful spot to stay if one likes to explore the Island of São Miguel. With nice weather conditions it is stunning to have breakfast on the terrace overlooking the ocean and beach with all surfers dancing through the waves. Cristina was very nice and supportive. I really enjoyed staying here. Absolut fantastic view over the beach and ocean from the terrace. I was looking forward to the breakfast there every day! Beautifully designed with great attention to detail. Super nice and helpful staff:) It feels more like a BnB rather than a hotel. Moinho da Areia is a great location to explore the whole island.

NetherlandsI wish there was a bit more food. We felt uncomfortable to take food as it was tiny pieces on the plate. Some vegetables would be great.
Christina was so nice to serve us a breakfast 30 min. earlier so that we can depart on time. The interior is beautiful, and the concept of renovating of an old mill. Location stunning, facing the ocean.
