Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandNote there is no air conditioning but there was a fan provided. Unfortunately we were in a room in the centre of the building so didn’t get a breeze through the window.
Good location, able to walk to most places. The shared bathrooms were very clean. The bed was comfortable.

BelgiumThere were no free soap, shampoo, sheats for the bed, or personal bath towel... So we have to bring that with us or buy it when we arrive... The two showers on our floor were often busy. But this may be normal in a cheap dormitory formula so I wouldn't really complain about it. The basic needs were well fit.
I appreciate that they have accepted to keep my heavy luggages in a closed and safe locker before my checking-time until my check-out. It was clean and convenient, well located and there was air conditionning in the rooms which was important during the very hot days of this summer. The staff was kind, welcoming and helpful. The bed in the dormitory is good, with a little light, wifi and curtains for privacy. The price was competitive.

Czech RepublicThe street was very noisy, like couldn’t sleep noisy. Construction work + pubs open very late.
It was quite clean, had everything one may need (even though some of the equipment was a bit used or old) and there were shades on the beds which was great! Beds were sturdy and comfortable.

BelgiumStaff didn’t really seem much around (as I had to wait quite a while both for check in/out without really knowing when/if somebody would appear) But ok, might have been an unfortunate coincidence 😉 It would be nice if the absence of the elevator could be somehow highlighted/alternatively mention in the description that it has 4 floors as it’s quite a surprise when you arrive tired and have to drag your (possibly heavy) luggage 4 floors up
Location is very much convenient (close to main Avenida, metro, city center) and it’s clean

CanadaAlthough my room came with a private washroom, the absence of a hairdryer caused some inconvenience. It might have been a cost-effective option, but given the amenities I paid for, the omission of a hairdryer was noticeable.

United KingdomVery noisy, windows didn’t block any noise out and the street got very loud at times. Doors were constantly being slammed by other travellers and there didn’t seem to be any consideration from them that other people were stating. Not particularly something that the hostel can help but maybe soft closing doors and some sound proofing may be considered. Light in the shower room went off multiple times when I was in the shower and I had to wave my arm about to get it to come back on.
Very clean, good facilities.

VietnamThe schedule for cleaning the kitchen is very inconvenient: kitchen would be closed in the morning from 7:45 to 8:15 - many guests want to have breakfast before they leave and cannot do so because of that. Why cannot clean between 13:00 and 15:00?? At that time almost nobody in the hostel. And the lady who cleans the kitchen has a very unfriendly attitude. (Other staff were all very welcoming) The building is old and there was only some cosmetic repairs done inside. It is all functional and clean, but looks old. The curtains on the bed had a stinky smell like they haven't been washed for a long time, but the reception changed them for me immediately upon my request. The weather is windy and it's hot in the sun and cold in the shadows - difficult to choose what to wear. My trip was almost ruined because of the strike on railway to Sintra. Couldn't find alternative transportation. Some people said they managed to go by taxi for €17 go and €25 back. The weather and the strike are not the hostel faults of course, but it just added to my mood when rating :)
Beds were very comfortable with USB charger and light and curtains. Kitchen fully equipped. A supermarket just near by. Close to 2 metro stations and the railway station to Sintra. Be prepared that everywhere u go - there would be no flat streets - it will always go up or down. It's a free exercise for you, but when you are already tired it can be too much. Better choose metro Marquis de Pombal when u arrive first with your bags, and go to metro Avenida when u leave. That way you will go mostly downhill.
