Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

BelgiumMaybe the lighting of the rooms and the shower faucets could be improved
The athmosphere of the hotel is superb, calm and very peaceful. The location is exceptional. I have travelled a lot in several countries for me this a very, very special place/location. The views from the restaurant are wonderful. The fact that is not very modern gives the hotel a particular charm and distinguishes it from all current hotels that look quite the same.

PortugalNo water provided in room. No coffee / tea either. Room decor and bathrooms need renovation to upgrade. Would not say this is a 4 * hotel despite the high prices set for the restaurant. (But the room price was reasonable enough to reflect this need for uograde)
Great location and lovely bar to sit quietly in the evening

United KingdomRooms a little dated. On floor 1, it looks like they've had a leak with large water mark on the wall. Restaurant a tad expensive but food was great. Parking can be an issue at busy times and it's the luck of the draw if you can park near the hotel as competing for spaces with day trippers.
Fabulous location and view from the restaurant was amazing. Couldn't get closer to Bom Jesus church and stairs if you tried

BrazilEven though the room had a certain charm, it is clear that some maintenance is necessary, namely the carpets in poor condition and already obsolete and leaks in the ceiling, the bed mattress also needs to be changed, you can already feel the springs in your back and make sleeping uncomfortable.
The hotel couriers were very kind, they gave us a suite with a beautiful view of Braga, the room is very classic and I really liked the colors. The location is perfect, very nice to wake up already at the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus, can visit early without too much tourists.

United StatesThere was a water stain in the hallway that they really need to take care of. But it did not affect my excellent stay. At 68 euro, including tax and breakfast, it was a wonderful deal.
The staff is so warm and hospitable. They really made the experience feel like a second home. I was not expecting to need a night at a hotel, so I only had on my hiking attire. Akk! But they insisted I not worry and to simply enjoy the restaurant, etc. The front desk staff person, Leandro, was as charming as they come. Smart, funny, and went out of his way to be helpful and make you feel welcome. The restaurant manager, Jose, was also sweet and quick to answer questions or find whatever you might need. Room was clean and well prepared. The view of the gardens was phenomenal! The whole experience there was just so peaceful and lovely! The 30 Euro fixed price dinner, including soup and dessert, hit the spot. (The only caveat: I will never get used to a restaurant bringing you bread and olives, then charging you for them, insisting if you don't want them you should simply ignore. Are they going to serve these to other people?? I think so and that creeps me out!)

United KingdomThis hotel, and the adjacent Hotel Templo, must be the absolute worst hotels in Portugal. We booked a 3 night stay, and the rooms were in such a state of disrepair we ended up moving rooms 4 times in 3 days. After the 2nd move of room, we were offered a room in the Hotel Templo, owned by the same company, and it was just as bad. Both hotels are in a catastrophic state, non working TVs, sinks that do not drain, taps that do not work, and so on and on. We specifically requested a quiet room, the first room was next to the kitchen serving lift, constant loud banging and crashing and people shouting. Both hotels are chronically understaffed, I saw the only receptionist outside having a cigarette whilst victims (guests) queued to check out. It was the worst 3 nights in hotels I have ever experienced (and I have stayed in hotels in 43 countries). I believe I should be refunded in full for this appalling experience.
Absolutely nothing, this hotel should not even be open, it is a disgrace.

GermanyA total disaster! The room was extremely cold, the heater was not working. I woke up in the middle of the night, totally freezing. They provided me after 1,5 hours a small heater, which was not really useful. I got sick due to this night and missed important meetings on the next days. The wifi was not working in the rooms even after resetting the routers. The reception promised to solve the problems but never did. The staff and management was not nice and not acting responsible.
