Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesWould like to see a more welcome attitude at reception. Also constantly having to log on to wifi is a no no in 2025...
The property is set in an scenic small village...Hiking trails right out your door. I stayed in a dorm room by myself with my own private bathroom. Had everything I needed to for an enjoyable adventure. The food is on quality of top restaurantes you would find in major cities!

GermanyBed small and hard.
We had a great stay. The hostel is in a great location, the rooms are functional but lovingly decorated. The bed is a bit cramped if you are travelling as a couple, one of whom is over 1.80 cm tall, and the beds were a bit too hard for our taste. The outdoor area with pool is great, you can swim directly into the mountains. There is a communal room where you can cook and a large fridge. However, there is a wonderful restaurant below the living quarters where you can eat excellently, which is beautifully decorated and has great service. You should definitely make a reservation as it is always busy. The restaurant is the breakfast room in the morning and this breakfast is bombastic. Everything your heart desires is delivered directly to your table. You can hardly manage the quantities, everything is super tasty. The same applies to the main courses in the evening. Thank you for a great stay.

United KingdomGreat location for a visit to the national park. Close to walking trails and bathing spots including Tahiti waterfall. Great restaurant and well priced. Secure parking. Outdoor pool with great views. More of a hotel than hostel imo. Air conditioned with en-suites.

FranceEverything was great, really!
My boyfriend and I stayed at Hostel Retiro in July 2025. We don’t usually write reviews, but this place was so special we just had to! The hotel was renovated during the pandemic. The property is really comfortable while still maintaining its authentic charm. The pool is stunning and was almost always empty, making it perfect for a peaceful swim. The village itself is beautiful and picturesque, adding to the overall charm of the experience. Another plus is the proximity of various waterfalls and natural pools: Poço Verde is accessible by foot while other waterfalls are only a few minutes away driving.

SlovakiaLoved the stay! The hotel is situated in the middle of the hills, in the national park, which makes it a perfect spot for relaxation and trips to nature - hiking, waterfalls, rivers, dips in the refreshing springs. Or you can just chill by the pool, looking at the view over the valley. Be sure to try out the restaurant, they cook amazingly and the overall service was very nice.

PortugalThere were a plethora of stairs going up to our room. They had a nice pool. . .but the facility didn't have towels that we could use.
Dinner was quite nice with an nice red wine. The breakfast was okay. . but it was replete with bread and I don't tolerate a lot of bread. I would have preferred more protein. The fruit was nice. And evidently the coffee wasn't real coffee unless you got the espresso.

United StatesI loved the location because it was a small friendly town where I saw a cow pass while I drank morning coffee. It's on part of the long hike route but I would advise people visiting the region in a car to take the time to visit as well. The views and vibe are great. There is also a restaurant on premises which is great when you arrive tired from your day Vegetarian options! The place is very clean and cared for. Even if it's just for 1 night, please visit and relax! I would recommend a car for this visit - there is a lot to see between here and Geres, and getting back and forth would have been very difficult without a car unless you are a long distance hiker/biker.

PortugalI definitely needed earplugs. It is on a "main" street in the little village of Fafiao so there is that in front and another road and bar/cafe on the other side. They were preparing for the Festival do Lobo so perhaps it was busier than normal in that respect.
Breakfast was very good. More than enough fresh baked goods, cereal, fruit, yogurt, cheese and meat. Friendly staff. Had dinner at the restaurant one night and the food was excellent! I was there to hike in the NP and you can leave from Fafiao or drive short distances to access many other hikes. I liked the community lounge/kitchen for access to a fridge and stove so that I could prepare my own food when I wanted. It's a beautiful area, the pool was great to have as well as off road parking. I liked my room on the front side for the view!
