Very peaceful place, oriented towards sustainability. The space is super special, and there was a nice eye for detail. The breakfast basket had lovely local products, and the fresh baked bread is something else! Is a good option to relax and recharge, also good to bring the family and children and be connected with the countryside and nature. We had no problems at all, overall we were extremely happy and pleasantly surprised. :)

Beautiful place with garden, animals and great hikes nearby. The staff is very welcoming and kind. The home is clean and comfortable. The breakfast basket is amazing idea. We had a great time at Chao do Rio. We would like to come back again in the future. We highly recommend this place for anyone.

Very kind hosts. Breakfast is just a super - large set of products including many local, for example local bread, muesli and jam. Buitiful pond, barbecue place. Playground for kids, so they can play together there.

Beautiful place with great hikes nearby. They offer free bikes to ride around the town. You can pet and feed the animal. The frogs croak and hop happily around. The staff is very welcoming and kind. The home is clean and comfortable. They also provide you with ingredient to cook yourself breakfast every morning. I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants a more rural experience of Portugal.

The only suggestion I have is for the hotel to reconsider the practice of keeping animals for entertainment. While it may be enjoyable for children, this approach doesn't quite align with the values of a place that values local products, local people, and the nature of the Serra da Estrela.

This place is truly special and feels like a poetic experience in Portugal! Out of the 12+ places we stayed, this is one of our favorites. Everything was perfect! When I made the reservation, I mentioned we’d be celebrating our wedding anniversary. The Chão do Rio surprised us with a beautiful bouquet of flowers from its garden. It was so thoughtful and made our trip unforgettable. This place is worth every penny! What I loved most: - The photos reveal what the place is like! - The staff are incredibly kind, polite, and attentive. - The cleanliness is spotless. - The breakfast basket with local treats is a must-try and such a special experience in Serra da Estrela. - The bed and pillows are super comfy. - The functionality of everything! Everything was very well thought out - The soaps made from natural materials - I loved all the local products and this was also a big plus I would like to leave my big thanks to this magical place! All the women who run this place are amazing!

We expected the breakfast basket to be a readymade breakfast! So there is cooking. The basket was overflowing with so much food we could also enjoy lunch, snacks … very generous.

There isn’t much but to keep coherence with the sustainability concerns they demonstrated I wouldn’t have that many packaged stuff for breakfast (some are needed but others like the little breads and alike aren’t). I would also put mosquito nets in all windows (only a couple had them) so we can cool down the house more in these warm nights.

Perhaps one of the cutest, well-thought and accommodating experience. The houses are beautifully decorated, clean and functional. The details are amazing (they even left a little present for our 5-year old that she played and carried around for days). The ladies taking care of the property (cleaning, bringing break fast baskets etc) were perhaps the best part: friendly, responsive, welcoming as if you are family. The setting is very nice, you can really relax and kids have enough to keep them entertained for hours. I would definitely come back.

Everything was just great!

This place feels like something out of a legend. The beautiful natural park features six charming huts, each painted a different color and perfectly equipped for a relaxing stay in nature. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, genuinely caring for guests' needs with joy and enthusiasm. At the center of the park is an ecological pool that completes the picturesque scene, making you feel as though you've stepped into a fairy tale.

We liked everything. Some people, who sleep lightly might be sensitive to church bells (you can hear them regularly). Also the attic bedroom and the main floor are not separated, so you hear each other in the night :D might be problem for some

When only we arrived, I was thinking - "gosh, I have given 10 points on booking for places far less special than this. What should I give them - 12, 20 or what?". It is really a very special, cozy, well-kept and loved place. We were visiting out of season, so it seems ours was the only occupied cottage. Such serenity, peace, fresh air. The territory is spacious, our cottage was so nicely equipped, nicely smelling. Each detail is well planned and taken care of. Breakfast is great, coffee (and coffee machine) is nice. All the people working here - super friendly and warm. We also lit fire in the fireplace each evening - that's so cozy & great. Also there’s a lot of prepared information about the area (where to eat, what to see) in the room. Most of it in EN, which is very practical for someone visiting region for the first time (such as ourselves). It’s one of those places where you want to come back.

The entire structure is stunning. The view, the little houses, the countryside atmosphere, everything is perfect. The staff is very kind and always at disposal and they bake fresh bread every day.
