Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United Arab EmiratesAdorable house on the hill. The owner was really nice and welcoming. The walls of our room had granite rocks in the wall which brought out the uniqueness of the stay. Had a very comfortable stay as we explored Monsanto. Location is just nice to be in the center of the small village.

An unforgettable stay in a magical village! We had an amazing week-long stay in this beautiful apartment in the charming village of Monsanto, Portugal, during the Boom Festival. The apartment was absolutely stunning—comfortable, stylish, and fully equipped with everything we needed. Our host was incredible—warm, attentive, and truly went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed throughout the week. The location was perfect—just 20 minutes from the festival site, offering the perfect balance between the vibrant energy of Boom and the peaceful serenity of Monsanto. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a unique, comfortable, and well-located stay with a wonderful host. We couldn't have asked for more!

This is a unique and charming property in the most magical place I have ever seen. Our room was very comfortable with a double bed and another single bed. Very cozy with a little table for enjoying breakfast. Estrela was the most charming host that we have met on our trip to Portugal. She welcomed us and had our suite warm and comfortable as we arrived when it was cool outside. Estrela offered us breakfast and brought it to our room. Delicious with the best orange juice with ginger that I’ve ever had. Estrela recommended nearby restaurants and introduced us to some of her friends. The chocolate brownies just below her Casa in a little cafe were the best, with such lovely people there as well.

New ZealandWe had a wonderful stay at Casa de David. The room is beautifully appointed and our host was very welcoming and helpful. Monsanto is an interesting, historic village. Eating out options were limited in the village as we were near the end of the season so it would be wise to take a few provisions. We did have an excellent breakfast provided by Estela.

Wow, what a place! The owner Estela is a charming, educated, well travelled Portuguese lady who speaks excellent English. She was a delight to be with from start to finish. Such a wonderful and welcoming reception and farewell, even after just a one night stay. Heading into Monsanto uphill you will pass the public parking area on your right...keep going uphill for 20 meters and bear left where there is parking for Casa de David, just 10 meters from your rooms. Go through the little gate and Estela will greet you and show you your rooms. The rooms are delightful. Wonderful, beautifully scented and decorated with natural rocks situated below the main house on a side street. This property has been in Estela's family for a long time and she has done a great job in converting it from family use to use as a guesthouse where she continues to live. Within easy walking distance of the amazing sights within the walled hilltop town of Monsanto. Be sure to head for the Templar castle at the top after sunset - very atmospheric.

United StatesThere was nothing that we did not like about the facility. It was what we expected and the host was so nice. Just a couple of pieces of advice for travelers. The town is definitely isolated and fairly "rustic". Very little accommodations to be had. I believe there are only two restaurants and one is closed on Mondays. There are a couple of very small cafes, but not much else. What this town does have is absolutely awesome access to a fantastic castle. It's a beautiful town, built in the rocks. The architecture is spectacular as you make your way up the hill, through the town, to the castle on top. Really beautiful and peaceful. You can probably see the town in a day trip but we chose to stay the night as there isn't much else around. I do highly recommend staying in the town, if you are exploring and visiting the castle as I could see how access/parking could be a bit difficult as the streets are pretty much walking only and parking is at the very beginning of the town. Really a cool town and very unique. It felt like we had the castle to ourselves as we explored as there were hardly any other people. After you hike up, visit the castle and walk the grounds, I highly recommend treating yourself to a cold beverage at the taverna on your way down. Super cool place.
Estela, the owner/host is a wonderful human. She is so nice, accommodating and just a pleasure to be around and talk with. The location is great, as you can't really travel much further through the town with a vehicle. It's one of the last stops. The rooms were clean and pleasant, best described as simple and elegantly, rustic! Very unigue, as they are build into the rock. We are a family of 4 so we had to reserve 2 rooms to accommodate everyone. Very affordable, so no big deal. Very simple rooms, but a bonus is that they do have air conditioning and you can park right next to the property. It can get pretty hot there. Estela made a delicious, fresh, homemade breakfast for us that was 10 euro per person. Totally worth it.
