Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Czech RepublicThe room was an attic room without air conditioning. In the summer, it was very hot and couldn't be ventilated overnight. Since the accommodation is in the center, be prepared for potential noise. Unfortunately, we were unlucky, and a party was held under our windows until the morning.
Accommodation is located in the center, the room is nice and clean, and the bed is comfortable. The hosts were very pleasant and helpful. I also rate the breakfast very highly. We really enjoyed our stay. In August, due to weather conditions (risk of fires), all landmarks were closed, so make sure to check their availability before your trip.

United StatesThe breakfast was generally good… fruits were fresh, meat and cheese. Hard boiled eggs and scrambled were good. I asked for almond milk and they provided some, but they put out the same chocolate torte 4 days in a row… the cereal was a bit stale.
Small, clean- we had the whole place for the 8 of us. Location was very convenient…walked up to the Moorish palace and Pena park….walked to the Initian Well and park Setias (?)…

UkraineWe truly enjoyed our stay! The place is peaceful, charming, and beautifully designed with an authentic touch. The view from the balcony overlooking the city was stunning. We’ll never forget that night. Breakfast was fresh and varied — yogurt, fruit, eggs, ham, tea, and coffee. Perfect location, close to central Lisbon.

United StatesThe only caution...you will need to climb stairs with your suitcase so don't bring a large or heavy one. My only recommendation to the place would be to add towel bars or hooks for the towels to dry outside of the shower. Also, there are no washcloths for your face...so bring one with you. An additional shelf or space for toiletries would be nice too.
I cannot express in words how much we loved staying at the Aguamel Sintra Bed & Breakfast. I required a king bed for me and my husband...we got a nice king that was super comfortable. We recommend the Orange Blossom room as it was 1 of 2 rooms that shared a balcony with breathtaking views of the countryside all the way to the ocean. The room was spacious with a wonderful bathroom. I was worried about not have air conditioning but it wasn't necessary in Sintra...the breezes were cool and perfect for night time sleeping. The location was unbeatable...in the heart of the historic area. In the middle of it all. The crowds of the day leave around 5pm and left us the only people in town...walking the streets with nobody around. And, we felt extremely safe...everyone was super friendly. It was totally quiet at night for a good rest. The breakfast spread was plentiful with many options for protein (hard boiled or scrambled eggs, deli meats, yogurt) with fruit, cereal and breads. The coffee was crazy delish and we actually bought the same one from a grocery store to bring home. We Highly recommend this accommodation, you won't be disappointed.

United KingdomNothing. Note : Walking from the train it is mainly up hill which was fine for us.
Absolutely loved the hotel and room.. It had a terrace with a view and a fire. Tea and coffee and cake were waiting for us on arrival. If you're arriving later in the day make sure you have the code to get in. Would definitely go back and for longer.

CanadaWifi wasn’t great and the room was a bit small with only one chair to sit except for the balcony.
The location was excellent, the breakfast was great, and the staff were so very friendly and helpful. Comfortable bed and a balcony overlooking the town with a view to the ocean. Sintra is a beautiful place to visit and I would recommend this hotel.

United KingdomWe weren’t so fond of the bathroom in the bedroom as this is not a separate bathroom so felt not very private when travelling with friends. The room was also in the attic space and got quite hot.

United KingdomBreakfast is usually served between 9-11am, and it is flexible to 8:30am on request, which worked out fine for me in the end. I think, ideally, it could start a bit earlier and finish earlier, but that’s a personal preference as I prefer to get up early. FYI, I managed to make the earliest (9:30 am) slot at Peña Palace by catching an Uber at 8:45am from outside the guesthouse - that was a tiny bit rushed for breakfast, but it all worked out. One small suggestion: a coat peg/s inside the door to the room would be great, in addition to the wardrobe. Another reading light would be useful, for any couples staying, and a light beside the chair would also be good.
The location is great - right in the heart of Sintra old town! It’s ideally located for bars and restaurants, with the bonus that it’s very close to the start of the Vila Sassetti walking route that takes you to Peña Palace, the Moorish castle, and more, should you wish to do so. I also had no problem taking the bus from right next to Aguamel one day, and a taxi pick-up on another occasion. The room was very clean, and pretty well equipped. Shower is very good, temperature and water pressure. It was also quiet - I heard no noise from bars etc, per another review. However, it is true that the floorboards are creaky, and you might hear other guests above if they come back late, but for me it wasn’t an issue. I enjoyed having the balcony - I stayed in one of the two rooms which share a balcony, but the tables are set quite far apart for some privacy. Even in January, it was possible to use it a little bit, and on a good day, it has a sea view. The breakfast is good - plenty of options. Do note, it isn’t a cooked breakfast, but there is cereal, fruit, yogurt, bread/croissants, cold meats and cheese, hard-boiled eggs, fruit juices, tea and coffee - a variety of foods to set you up for the day. The free cake and hot drinks were a nice touch - I made use of that in afternoons, coming back from walking a lot around the parks and palaces. The bed is very large! Everything was cosy, even in the January wind and rain.
