Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesThe location is just terrible. It feels like you are in the "hood". Very sketchy looking buildings, and few homeless people lingering around outside. Also, we rented a car and we couldn't find parking close by, we had to park several blocks away, at night it's scary because of the sketchy location. For that reason, I wouldn't recommend it for "tourists". If you are a native to PR, or are already aware of how some parts of San Juan are, and that doesn't bother you, its a great place to stay at.
The Building itself was great. It was very clean. We stayed in the room with the private outdoor shower, on the top floor. it was really nice. The AC worked well and the bed was comfortable and clean.

United StatesRoom 1, which faced the main street nearby, had seemingly no sound insulation. When cars drive by, it sounds like you have a window open and are hearing noises from outside. The curtains also provide little light insulation if you are sensitive to light. There were also some small ants in the room upon arrival. Given the plants on the balcony, they must have come from there, but unfortunate to see ants in your room, even if they were not disruptive. Parking is pretty abysmal, and often leads you down narrow, sketchy roads in some of the worst parts of San Juan. It is difficult to feel safe at night and especially unnerving to leave your car in these neighborhoods.
The bathroom had surprisingly high scale amenities. The air conditioning unit worked well to cool down after a hot day outside. The staff provided timely communication for check in and check out policies ahead of our stay and departure - never had to talk to anyone. There are also several bars, restaurants and convenience stores within walking distance.

United StatesFelt unsafe outside. Could not go for walks. Junkies/homeless people sitting in front. Do not rent room 1, right in front and can hear everything outside and people coming up/down stairs.
Place? Excellent. Room? Good. bathroom? Great. Any issues? Taken cared of within 24hrs.

United StatesThey seemed to have problems with the basics. There were 2 bath towels, one hand towel and no wash cloths. There was no bathmat and the tile floor was very slippery when wet. The body wash dispenser was empty and not attached to the wall. (There was no other soap except liquid hand soap that was in a dispenser attached to the wall near the sink). There was a half a roll of toilet paper and no spare. This was a 4 story walk-up, not a problem except that the stairs were quite steep. Most of these could easily have been addressed if there were any on-site staff. I would not have booked this property had I known in advance that it was a no-contact property.
The room and the public areas were beautifully decorated and the shower was great. The area around the hotel seemed a little sketchy at first, but there were a lot of nice things about it. We discovered couple of nice cafes and an area where the buildings were all painted with murals. We did enjoy our stay.

Costa RicaTerrible experience. The location is awful and feels unsafe — the area is full of junkies, and the overall atmosphere is disturbing. The place smells like mold, and to make things worse, there’s a bar in the same building that is not mentioned in the listing. The noise goes on until 2:30 a.m., making it impossible to sleep. This property is completely misrepresented online. It’s more like a motel than a boutique hotel. I’m extremely disappointed and feel like my vacation and time to rest were ruined. I demand a full refund. This was a waste of time and money.
Nothing. I couldn’t sleep and I couldn’t enjoy my stay. Terrible location

United StatesOur room was essentially just a King bed and a bathroom—nothing else. There were no chairs, tables, or sofa to provide any comfort or functionality, making it impossible to relax or get any work done. Additionally, THE CALMA POSHTEL is situated next to a karaoke bar, which plays loud music well into the night. The noise, combined with people shouting in the streets, made it impossible to sleep. To make matters worse, when we reached out to the so-called “manager,” of THE CALMA POSHTEL, we were told that he is responsible for multiple properties and that there was nothing he could do to address the issues we were facing. No one at the property was available to assist, leaving us feeling completely unsupported. Furthermore, the neighborhood felt unsafe, which added to our overall discomfort and concern during our stay. Based on our experience, WE CANNOT, in good faith, recommend THE CALMA POSHTEL to other travelers. We believe a full refund is warranted due to the severe discomfort and lack of service we experienced. We hope you will take this feedback seriously and address these issues to prevent future guests from facing the same challenges.
As a seasoned family of travelers who have visited over 30 countries and deeply appreciate cultural differences, we were looking forward to our stay at La Calma Poshtel. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed by our experience. While we can acknowledge that the room itself was relatively clean.

United StatesThe room was tiny, there was no space between the bed and the wall on one side, and only 1 foot to the other side of the bed. The bathroom door was clear so you could see your partner pooping. Funny enough the bathroom was bigger than the bedroom. No space to comfortably put your suitcase. The price was cheaper than other hotels, but not worth the pain. And it is not a hotel, it is a self service airbnb in the shape of tiny rooms.
It was clean.

BrazilProblem with check in, I had to wait outside the property for more than 1 hour to get the codes to enter. communication was null on Booking.com chat, Once they gave the code to enter, room was the wrong one. So I had to implore to have another room. I received the codes after 15 more minutes Once inside the new room (5), furniture was broken, not clean with bugs that I had to kill and clean. Bad isolation, music from nighttime parties was loud inside the room. Next Morning once I was still on bed, someone enters the room without knocking the door, Awful situation.

United StatesWell I had the only room with a shower, the rest had to share a bathroom and in my bathroom we had no water pressure! So we couldn’t fully shower and the location doesn’t allow for you to have a rental car because legit no parking. Also so many door locks and no one physically there to help you when one of them doesn’t work !

SpainThis property do not have reception or staff in the location. Upon my arrival I did not received any message with instructions on what is my room, the wifi passwords, access codes to hotel and the room, needed to call on the phone provided via email in case of emergency and wait on the line for 30 min. Property advertise on booking that you can pay once you are in hotel, this is a lie, I was charged from the card I provided for pre authorization, on the day before check in without even have the opportunity to talk to anyone. Bed blankets were smelling like a cats piss on it day in and day out, needed to take it to balcony to get read of the stench in the room. The worst part is that representatives in Booking.com suggested me this property as my originally reserved hotel had piping issue. Well done Booking.com!
Cleaning stuff in the morning of my check out were very polite.
