Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaNothing to say here.
A very unusual stay in a historic building which suited the quirky nature of accommodation we prefer. Very well presented in all aspects. The included tour of the fort was very interesting and a bonus. Highly recommended if you crave something different.

United StatesThere was no restaurant on site. There was no TV in the room. When other people were speaking in their room, we could hear everything in our room. It was difficult to fall asleep for that reason.
It was ok. Really nice building.

United KingdomIt was far from the main town (too far to walk). When we first arrived, we were confused and were left with a lot of questions about our stay - what time is breakfast? What is the WiFi password? Is the restaurant open to guests? Where are the shared facilities? What time can we walk around the Fort until? We had to go back to the reception and proactively ask all these questions - it may be nice to just have a little information sheet upon arrival. Some people mentioned the smell of damp in their rooms, which is true. However, that's part and parcel of staying in a historical location like this and we got used to the smell after a while! There was a large group of schoolkids staying at the Fort too whilst we were there, and they were VERY loud and noisy - even with our bedroom door locked, and shutting the door at the end of our passageway, you could still hear them screaming, whistling, and running up and down the main corridor. Loud enough to wake you up! :( It was so peaceful and quiet until they arrived though, so we know that this was not a permanent problem.
This is a very unique place to stay - we enjoyed wandering around and learning about the place! The man at reception was lovely - so knowledgeable about the Fort, and helpful giving us information about our accommodation. The shower was good, the beds were cosy, towels were provided, and the WiFi was fast! They also had a shared kitchen downstairs with a microwave and a fridge/freezer, plenty of crockery and utensils.

PolandThere was no cocoa for the kids' milk in the breakfast. At the room's bathroom, the shower had a curtain, so the water was all over the bathroom's floor after the shower. There was another room next to ours with shower screen, but it was smaller (good for 2 people).
Breakfast ok, there is no TV and it is a quiet and interesting place with lot of character. Clean Private bathroom. Staff is nice. Convenient price.

United KingdomIt's a shame it's a little way out of the city, but there is a bus stop very near by. The wifi was disappointing. I see now that I missed the note about it in the hotel description, and I do understand that in such a building good wifi it probably difficult to install, but it really could be improved. The shower also wasn't hot for more than about three minutes. A few tea/coffee bags might have been nice. It could have been a luxurious apartment but I feel that the basics need to be addressed first - e.g. shower and wifi - then it will really be worth the money. I also can't really imagine that it's pleasant to be in a room without a private bathroom, as the communal ones would be freezing and quite far. The tour - super fun. I like that the history of the building can still be showcased. But signage could be improved, as on the self guided tour it's easy to stray from the route. Especially the door back into the building from the courtyard needs marking well, as I couldnt remember which one to take back inside.
What a bizarre place! I really can't describe it. I felt like a soldier might walk past at any moment, as the place seems preserved in history. Despite the run down nature of the building and the corridors, the room was in good condition, clean and comfy. My bed was exceptional and I slept very well. The addition of plenty of storage, a couch, and a kettle was nice too. Staff were all super lovely and helpful. I especially loved being greeted by Andreu (I think - so sorry if that's wrong) and his lovely dog. They both put a smile on my face every day. Breakfast was delicious - 3 options prepared to order, served with bread, meats, cheese etc. So much good food! The tour was also a nice touch, it was nice to understand the history of the place I was staying. The room had a chill to it, but wasn't actually cold - just bring warm pyjamas. There was an electric heater in my room in case I needed the extra heat. I didn't use the kitchen but that's a nice addition and it seemed well stocked. There were some minor issues but overall I had a comfortable stay and the novelty of the place was great.

PolandThere was no body soap or shampoo. Tiles in the bathroom were damaged, the bathroom door handle was damaged. I didn't like the bathroom at all. It has a modern look but it needs restoration. The walls were quite thin, even tho it was all quiet outside, we could hear neighbors talking. There was no coffee machine at breakfast.
I liked that it was super quiet at night. Could not hear cars, or anything else. Absolute silence. The beds were comfortable. The room was cool, even though there was no AC. The atmosphere was quite unique. The breakfast was okay.
