How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewIt was a great choice! The best place for shark swimming. I stayed 3 days and visited sharks twice. I was renting a bungalow, it is very authentic and made of bamboo. Hosts organizes everything about the sharks (you just pay 100 peso for the organization), they wake you up and stay the queue for you from 2 in the morning, so that the hostel guests become the first group of the day to see the sharks! Also the host organized the Sumilon island trip for us and the waterfall visit. For free! 100% recommend, Oslob became my most memorable stay in the whole trip!
The beach is free since 11 am (when shark feeding stops) and you can go to swim

Verified reviewRight next to the whale shark watching spot, they’ll wake u up at 4am and make sure you dont have to wait in long line, everything is average, all of the staffs are super helpful and friendly, if you want anything they get it right away. Room is a bit hot and old, the water in the sink is broken, water from shower is weak and strong randomly. But the price and location is okayishhh

Verified reviewThe location of the hostel is perfect , it’s literally just a few steps away from the whale watching area. Thanks to the hostel we were the first ones to go swimming with the whales, even though we woke up at 4:30 AM and there were already lots of people there. We didn’t have to wait in any queue, which was a huge advantage. The staff were also very friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
That said, if you’re looking for something clean, comfortable, or even slightly luxurious, this is not the place for you. We experienced a power outage in the morning and also had to take a shower using a bucket. The facilities are very basic. But overall, if your main goal is to swim with the whales and avoid long lines, it’s totally worth it for the convenience.

Verified reviewIt’s next to the whale shark swimming spot. When I arrived Oslob by bus I got pickup by a local to the hostel. He also took me to the seafood restaurant and picked me up later when I finished. The next day he also drove me to the waterfall in the morning. The 2 boys working in the hostel very friendly and helpful as well. They helped me bought the ticket and lineup in the morning so I can get in the queue first thing in the morning. Also helped me book a trip to the island near by. I only booked the dorm room, but because it’s low season so they upgrade me to a private room without paying more. The room is nice, no AC but fan, but it has mosquito net. The atmosphere while I was staying there was so nice. I should have stayed longer coz the place so quiet in the evening.
The toilet was shared

Verified reviewIf you are in oslob for the whale shark watching this is the right place to stay. The staff is very helpful and kind even with organising ferries / transports for your next destination.
No curtains in beds, no running water in the sink in the dorm bathroom

Verified reviewThe location is great, right next to whale shark watching. Stuff is very helpful with getting tickets in the morning, they will make sure you're on one of the first boats.
Don't have high expectations from the hostel or the town. It's OK for one night, but I wouldn't recommend you to stay any longer. Also be aware that the price for whale shark watching is no longer 500 pesos/person, but 1000 pesos/person.

Verified reviewThe only good thing is that it’s right on the beach where the whale sharks are – although the tour itself is really bad because it’s way too crowded.
I had booked two nights, but I left after the first one. I didn’t feel comfortable at all. The staff was very unfriendly, and when I arrived, they had no idea that I had made a reservation. The room was small and had nowhere to put anything. The bathroom, which was shared by everyone, was extremely dirty and disgusting.

Verified reviewThe location was great! 30 seconds from the whale shark swimming area. The staff was helpful in organizing the whale shark swimming.
The bathroom in the dorm was in a poor state and no toilet paper. I was woken up by the staff opening the lights at 3 and 5h30 in the morning to wake some of the guest that were going to see the whale sharks. The proximity was great but it means you will hear a loud speaker calling out ticket numbers from 5h30 in the morning to noon.

Verified reviewThis was a terrible location, it was the center of Whale shark entertainment. I was woken up at 3 AM by rooster geckos, it felt like they were right next to me, staff members cooking talking, and a loudspeaker, taking place at the Whale Shark location. And the staff members are selling you tours, making an extra 500p for you. When all the tours are fifty feet from the hostel... The owner of the hostel follows me around, so I don't ask for prices on tours. And when I did ask prices, she would overspeak me and talk to tagalong to them, to let them know she's bringin' me to them. It was very uncomfortable. I left the same day. Sorry for the bad feedback. This was my experience

Verified reviewStaff are great and trained to give you the best shark experience. The hostel is basic but serves the purpose. The blanket was a thin sheet not enough to sleep in the ac room. I had to put all my winter clothes on to fall sleep.
