How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewOur room wasn't ready on time, but at least they had the decency to store my luggage until it was.
Some of the private rooms did not really have windows. Our private bathroom was connected to the common area by a large gap near the ceiling (not a window), so we could hear all the conversations there while showering. Some common areas (other than the plastic flower "garden" in front) literally do not have a roof, therefore when walking through parts of the hostel you're exposed to wind and rain if the weather is bad. Unsurprisingly, the non-existent isolation also means it's also quite loud. We tried out other accommodations in Miraflores and they were all better than this, so I'm glad we didn't return.
Dear Vessi, Thank you for your review. We value the opinion of each guest and want to respond with complete transparency to the points you mention. First of all, you did not express any concerns during your stay, which we are happy about, as our team always strives to provide attentive, quality service. You made two separate reservations for different rooms. The first was for a shared room and the second was for a private room. Due to our accommodation policy, check-out is at 11:00 a.m. and check-in for a new room is from 2:00 p.m. This is because we need time to properly clean between stays. If there was any wait between rooms, it was due to this standard process and not a delay on our part. We regret that you have expressed your intention to leave a negative review as a result of not receiving a refund for the deposit for the key you lost during your first reservation, as we believe that this does not reflect the overall experience you had during your stay. We appreciate your understanding and are always available to clarify any other concerns. Best regards, The Secret Garden Manager

Verified reviewThe staff was mostly nice, so was the little free pisco tasting. The beds existed and the shower water was warm.
The roof over parts of the hostel was missing, and that over the shared dorms seemed to consist of a thin metal cover. Thus the common areas were quite noisy due to the loud reverberating echo from the streets. Inside, the air was humid to the point the clothes I left outside my luggage were damp. The shared bathroom wasn't very clean, for a few days it didn't have toilet paper and the bin was left overflowing. There was one incident when I lost my room key, which I of course told the staff. I found it a few days later and returned it since I didn't need it. They refused to give me back the key deposit I had paid, which struck me as unfair and, honestly, one of several sketchy things I noticed there. The place has some redeeming qualities, but definitely not enough for me to stay there again once I returned to Lima on my way back. There's other cheep places in Miraflores with better value (and a roof), so think twice before booking this one.
Dear Vessy, Thank you for your comment. We regret that the situation with the key deposit caused you inconvenience, and we would like to clarify some important points. During your stay with us, you did not express any concerns or discomfort, which we are happy about, as we always strive to offer a comfortable and pleasant experience to our guests. Regarding the 20 PEN deposit for the key, as informed at check-in, this is fully refundable at check-out if the key is returned. In your case, the key was returned 25 days after your departure, and we had already had to replace it in order to welcome our next guests. We understand your annoyance, but unfortunately we cannot make exceptions in these types of situations, especially when additional costs have already been incurred. We would also like to point out that you mentioned that you would leave a negative review if the deposit was not refunded, which we regret, as we believe that it does not objectively reflect your experience with us. We appreciate your understanding and remain at your disposal for any further questions. Best regards, The Secret Garden

Verified reviewThe staff working there were all really friendly and helpful with checking us in and giving us recommendations of the local area. Our room was beautifully decorated and was so comfy. Shower was nice, warm, and spacious. Bathroom overall was clean and well stocked. There was good social areas such as a living/ dining area, jungle inspired nook, and kitchen. They offered Pisco tasting of some of their home infused selections. Offered Netflix in the living area and in the private room. Kitchen was well stocked of utensils. They offered breakfast for an extra price, but we did not take advantage of this. Brilliant location within Miraflores, was in walkable distance to some of the main attractions we wanted to see. Very secure with key fob and monitored gate.
It was a busy road, so we could hear traffic a lot in the front rooms of the hostel, nothing earbuds couldn't fix.

Verified reviewVery central location, clean and comfortable dorms, well equipped kitchen. There was also different communal areas to relax in, although it wasn’t a super social hostel.
There was a water outage for a couple of hours during one of the afternoons, so couldn’t shower etc.

Verified reviewThe location is good, close to Parque Kennedy. It has a common space and a kitchen.
The hostel would be a 6: the two people room was big, but not very clean, the bathroom moldy, the window has no shades and there is a light shining in front of it all night long. It has been a bad experience, because I booked an extra night on my way back to Lima since I left the luggage there. On the Booking website, it appeared that they did not accept my card (even though I used it for the prior reservation) and that the room was therefore not confirmed. I booked a different hostel, but on the day of arrival they reached out to me to ask at what time I would arrive. I explained the situation, did not get an answer but I got an email from Booking saying that the reservation was cancelled. I picked up my luggage, slept at the other hostel and the next day a payment from my card was made. Once again, I texted the hostel and did not get an answer. Very disappointing, would never reccomend.
