How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Paper thin walls; can hear other guests' conversations. Very small room. Little space for luggage. Difficult to move around. Hot water only during the daytime. Given that many tours in Arequipa start very early and end late, you may not be able to take a hot water shower.

Verified reviewThe location is great, close to the old town, but also within walking distance of a large Real Plaza and Plaza Vea. Potentially a nice apartment for a good price, with a view over a large part of the city and the mountains.
But unfortunately, a large part of those mountains and the city also had a view into our bathroom window, which the hotel didn’t think necessary to cover. There are blinds, but they’re in such poor condition that many are missing, leaving you quite literally standing bare-bottomed in front of the window when using the toilet or taking a shower. We brought this up with the reception, but they didn't take this serious. Furthermore, the hygiene—especially in the bathroom—was poor. It was clearly visible that a previous guest had shaved there, there were toothpaste stains on the wall, and the handheld showerhead was in such bad condition that it was basically unusable. In the kitchen, I particularly missed the cleaning supplies that had been promised on Booking.com, which meant we couldn’t even wash our own dishes—a real drawback when renting an apartment like this. Some basic cleaning supplies would have made the mandatory daily cleaning, for which we had to leave the apartment by 9:45 a.m. for two hours every day, more or the less unnecessary. Overall, I didn’t feel like guest well-being was a priority here, which is a dealbreaker for me.
As explained earlier, the window you're referring to (located in the bathroom) isn't transparent; it's anti-reflective. As you can see, it's similar to a mirror. Only the person inside the bathroom can see outside, but you can't see in from the outside. Thank you for your comment; it helps us continue to improve our services. The blinds have been replaced. Regarding hygiene (cleanliness), we haven't received any complaints; we take cleanliness very seriously. As you can see, there are more than four knobs in the shower, each one for a different purpose (overhead shower, handheld shower, back shower). If you find it difficult to use, you can always request information. We checked their operation and they are functioning normally. As we also indicated in booking. You can request kitchen cleaning products (only if your reservation includes a kitchenette). As we repeat, I never request them. Some guests don't want to be interrupted, nor do they want housekeeping to come in. How could we provide better service if we aren't informed? In fact, we're always ready to help. You only mentioned your discomfort with the window, and we've already explained that it's not transparent; that's the only thing you complained about at reception. That's why we're surprised by your comment regarding the other issues.

Deposit request via bank transfer doesn't work well for last-minute booking (and is overall an inconvenience). The room that we booked was given to someone else and we received an unwanted upgrade with less privacy but the staff was helpful and a solution was found in the end

We did not like that our terrace was not alone for us and that the cleaning lady invaded our privacy when trying to do the hotel laundry! We were at the toproof so that problem only occurs there!

We check our facilities, surely, it must be something occasional for personal use in the bathroom, but we have not found any defect in the water or drainage service. I called the property before booking to ask if they have Air Conditioning, since the AC filter option was not available in booking for hotels in arequipa. I was told that they have AC just in the big room so i booked it even though i was alone. When i reached the hotel i asked again about AC and the receptionist confirmed. After i went to the room and was surprised by the lack of AC i went down to the reception to complain and they kept insisting that the portable heater has an option that will give cool air and that they will ask maintenance to come and fix it for me…

Verified reviewOverall, a nice stay and good value for your money. It is close to the city center, 5 min walking distance, and located on a gated street. Clean room with a nice bed, warm shower and a small refrigerator - everything you need. Friendly staff. The entrance is locked, too, so it feels very safe.
Staff spoke very limited English.

This was my second stay. First time had great room on 3rd floor w natural light and views. Second time had a small ground floor box w no outward facing windows. Natural light through open door to passage to bathroom down an obscured 3 level lightwell. With this door open ALL the sounds from next door bathroom were clearly audible.
We have different rooms from 12 square meters with a private bathroom, ideal only for SLEEPING IF YOU COME DURING THE DAY TO DO TOURISM OR SIMILAR AND WILL NOT BE IN A ROOM, and others up to 65 square meters, mini apartments, different prices, different characteristics and different services, balcony, some even with a washing machine, microwave and others for exclusive use, AS THE GUEST INDICATES, the economic reservation, photos and area and location clearly informed. In writing. Photos published and sent by Booking, I paid 16 dollars and he expects us to give him a superior room with different characteristics, I do not see why he should criticize us for a service that he did not contract and did not pay for, likewise he was offered a room change, adding the balance of another room but he simply did not want it, we should also be able to qualify the behavior of our clients.
