Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandNot a suitable destination for anyone with a disability as quite steep walk from parking area to the front door, with steps for the latter bit.
A very eclectic location, nicely set in the bush. Good facilities with a full kitchen for shared use and nice outdoor space to chill. A couple of rather friendly cats that came to visit made our stay that much more enjoyable. Recommend you take some Temptations cat biscuits to cement your new friendship! Shared bathrooms but if you have the large upstairs room you have your own bathroom which is still separate. Water pressure is pretty poor, but I get it because Waiheke has a water supply problem especially in the summer.

United StatesGreat location with good access to the bus. Yes you have to walk up a gradual hill from the bus stop to the driveway. The driveway is as bad as folks say it is and taxis will not drive down it. My room was comfortable although the light for the hall was right outside and would shine through the curtain every time the light turned on. Plenty of room in the frig, well stocked kitchen. Comfortable furnishings. Good WiFi. Great bird sounds! Felt the money value was quite good!

AustraliaIt was a relatively hard place to reach as we were travelling via public transport and it was at the top of a hill, once we go to the top of the hill we had to walk down the gravel driveway (which was steep downhill). Not great if you are an international traveller with 25kg of luggage!
The place was very homely and good value for money, it was clean inside. Very smoochy cats. Is a good spot if you're looking for some relaxing down time.

New ZealandThe bed was to hard for me I expect a better quality bed in this price range. The facilities I felt were to small and were shared hostel style, for potentially 6 people I think this would be tight and uncomfortable. I would not want to be stuck inside on a rainy day with up to 6 people there. I think 2x rooms max should be letted out at a time to avoid this. The road and driveway were steep which made it hard with luggage
Very peaceful location, with lovely native bush and extensive bird life. loved the batch feel and character of the place. Enjoyed the deck and garden area.

New ZealandOnly minor but very thin walls, can hear pretty much every conversation going on haha. Can be difficult to get to without a car but there is a local bus about a 10 minute walk from property, make sure to check running times!
Great budget friendly guesthouse, excellent location. Friendly cats! Wonderful view of trees and all the facilities you would need for your stay.

United StatesNot much to criticize. The only drawback was the steep driveway, which wouldn't have been too bad if we had packed lighter.
The Waiheke Guest House had a lovely eclectic vibe, full of plants and fun knick knacks. Our room was very comfortable and felt private, but the rest of the house was shared, which was nice for meeting other travelers. Communication with reception was great. Wish we could have stayed longer!

New ZealandI booked the King deluxe room. When making the booking the description said private bathroom with shower, which is true, but it's not close to the actual room, it's downstairs. There is nothing that would prevent anyone else from using it, just a sign that says "Private", but it was fine, I just didn't expect it.
It was clean, and the bed & pillows are super comfortable. The room has a beautiful view to the outside garden and it's very peaceful. Unfortunately I didn't have the pleasure of meeting the host, but I'm sure they are lovely. Easy self check-in after arriving later than expected.

New ZealandFirst ! don't think the owner checks communication on Booking.com, as the first comment I got on arrival was " I was just about to leave!". When I did send an approximate arrival time. Also she was coming in and out without announcing herself or when we were not there. I do understand she wanted to check on breakfast supplies, but there are better ways to do this. The worse was, she came in on last day at 9:08 am to start taking sheets off beds while we were still collecting our stuff and loading them in car. It states on front door leaving time 9:30.!!!! Quite unpleasant, we felt we were kicked out. Please note No aircon.

CambodiaThe spa, which was advertised for evening start gazing, was not working (and hasn't been for a while, with no date to fix it in the near future), there was no home made muesli (as advertised), the milk was out of date, the bathroom was not clean and the curtains were thin, letting light through from the main area. BUT this might be the cheapest accommodation in Waiheke, so take those negative comments in light of the price of the room. You get what you pay for and that's what we got. If you're not after fine service and just need a place to lay your head for the night, is definitely recommend it!
The yard is lovely, the beds were comfortable. The room was as advertised and it has all the facilities you need to cook all the basics.
