Karen and Rob were very personable and inviting. The lodge is beautifully decorated with something to feats the eyes upon in every nook. Our room was magnificent with an incredible view. Breakfast was thoroughly enjoyable and the complimentary bottle of wine was a lovely touch.

Luxurious bed and breakfast with fabulous views of the lake and a short drive from Taupo city centre. The hosts Karen and Rob have thought of everything to make your stay as comfortable as it can be. Highly recommend. Will definitely stay at the Flying Trout on future visits to Taupo.

Simply superb !! From start to finish this hotel / b&b was the highlight of our visit to NZ. A beautiful home with stunning views of the lake in Lake Taupo. The hosts are most gracious. The room was beautiful. Extremely large with a dressing area, balcony with a gorgeous view, jacuzzi bath tub and shower. Breakfast was plentiful and beautifully presented.

We had a fantastic stay...if I can give it 6 stars & more, I would! What made the place so special is the wonderful & warm hospitality of hosts Rob & Karen, they made us feel so welcome the moment we arrived. The Kiwi Suite (that we booked) was perfect in every way, fully equipped with all the necc amenities and had amazing views of Lake Taupo. Very quiet and super comfy beds. Breakfast simply yummy & prepared to perfection by Karen. A wonderful home that has so much character to it because of the exquisite collection of artwork & artifacts accumulated by Rob over the years. A must stay for anyone looking for THE perfect place.

The Flying Trout was outstanding accomodation. Very welcoming and comfortable. There was no stone left unturned. Everything you could possibly need was thought of. Breakfast was outstanding. With the world’s most delicious Granola. Karen and Rob were excellent hosts.

This is a beautiful bed and breakfast. Our room was lovely, clean and comfortable with an amazing view of the lake. The lodge is perfectly located with great views and the room was splendid. But what makes it extra special is the incredible attention to detail that Karen and Rob have put in to make their guests’ stay “just right”, and their kindness in tailoring the local recommendations to our specific needs. Thank you very much indeed. If and when we are back in NZ we would love to stay again.

The lodge is so well set up with everything that you could need for a most comfortable stay. Our room was lovely and quiet with a view to Lake Taupo from the balcony. Rob and Karen were so helpful in giving us local guidance about activities and places to eat. The breakfast was delicious.
