Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesPretty good overall. Only minor wish would be that the bathroom is a bit bigger since it’s shared. No big deal though since that’s a difficult change. Worked out
Very neat and nice and clear instructions written where needed. Convenient location. Shaun was very accommodating with my last minute request.

CanadaNot the nearest option from the bus station if you want to walk. The bathroom/shower/basin is a teeny area tucked in behind the kitchen.
Cool to stay in what seemed to be a traditional old house. Situated in the middle of the various attractions. Solid beds unlike a lot of the flimsy metal beds.

New ZealandIt wasn’t as clean as some of the other hostels I’ve stayed at (toilets/bathrooms). The door to my room was extremely squeaky, it was a dorm room so anytime someone left or came in it would squeak very loudly.
The host was friendly, and the beds were comfy. It was in a good location, near bus stops and within walking distance to New World supermarket and Te Papa museum. There’s an outdoor area with a hammock and there’s a good Tv room with boardgames and books. There’s also a free laundry and you get a towel and locker, and food box for the pantry. It was well organized

New ZealandI was given a bottom bunk bed which meant that I couldn't sit up in the bed, which was a bit frustrating. The people who were on the top also had a shelf to put their things, which would have made it more comfortable.
The kitchen facilities were really good. The lounge set up was also very comfortable.

SwitzerlandKitchen can be kinda messy sometimes, but I've seen much worse.
Went there twice during my two month New Zealand trip and loved it. It feels much more like a shared house than a hostel, especially with all the long term residents that welcome you with open arms. Lot of space to hang out and meet new people. The kitchen has all the facilities you need including a rice cooker. Everyone has their on boxes both in the dorms as in the kitchen which helps to keep chaos at bay. Would come back anytime

United KingdomKitchen was fine. Strange set up with toilet and shower through kitchen area. Staff were great with communication via booking.com, but didn't see them on site. The toilet was clean, but the shower had a fair bit of mould and made it quite uncomfortable to shower there. Bedroom was fine and living room, outdoor space. Free washing facilities, great. It's a shame the shower seemed to make the stay not so enjoyable. There is another shower, if that's available, I heard it's much better. Also, I've seen other people's comments about people living there. Wasn't an issue with space, but they seem to work a lot and want the room to be in darkness all day and night. This made me feel like an inconvenience for trying to see my clothes at 9am, or 9pm. Not sure if this is a temporary setup or not. Good location for Mt Victoria.

It's a beautiful house with plenty of very kind people. It's like a family, they are very respectful. The house is close to the city centre and the shared areas are comfortable.

United KingdomSuper hostel. Plenty of space to relax, whether in the spacious lounge, the garden sun house or at the large dining table. Two large kitchens with plenty of fridge and storage space. My 'dorm' had only two beds. The staff were friendly & helpful and all the guests were courteous and great too. Just 10-15 min walk to Wellington centre.
