Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaA little far to walk into town when raining.
Welcoming, helpful & attentive hosts. Stunning views. Delicious breakfasts. The hosts couldn’t be more helpful and proactive especially during the cyclonic storm and subsequent power outage.

Everything! The house is an old Victorian-style villa with a rich history, and you have the chance to explore it. Peter and Greg are wonderful hosts, and Peter is an excellent chef—his homemade breakfasts are absolutely delicious.

United KingdomNothing particularly. Just some suggestions: - when guests have driven a long way, maybe give them a cup of tea on arrival / an opportunity to have a breather / use the facilities, before doing all the instruxtions / formalities - maybe detach the message about sun cream and damage to linen and the threat of a $50 charge from the actual taking of security deposit on credit card. It felt a little harsh, given the cost of staying. Just do it separately.

United Statesnot an issue for us but no TV, but why would you travel here to watch TV. Some stairs to navigate for the mobility challenged. ask about before you book your specific room.
This boutique B & B is as good as it gets for lodging for the Russell bound. Russell, set in an exquisite setting in the Bay of Islands is the oldest Anglo settlement in NZ. The Inn is slightly outside of the central town, easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. The views from the Inn over the bay are stunning especially at the extremes of daylight. Night time is Dark Skies and reveals the magnificence of the Southern hemisphere for the stargazer. Breakfast offers fresh fruits from their own orchard including bananas and plums and homemade granola. This is followed by made from scratch hot breakfast items, homemade breads and cakes. Excellent strong coffee is available to start your day, and juice. Our room was historically allotted to the “housekeeper” set apart from the main house with a private entrance and porch commanding great views of the bay. The Wi-Fi performed flawlessly; water pressure is good with plenty of hot water. However, Russell is in a drier area of New Zealand and dependent upon rainwater, so you are encouraged to be judicious in your usage and conserve to the best of your ability. There is an honor wine bar in the kitchen fridge with a mixture of local NZ wines available for purchase (by the Bottle) at very reasonable prices…NOT the usual markups that one encounters while traveling. The hosts Peter & Greg were outstanding in personality and knowledge of the local area making for an excellent respite in a great location

United StatesOur stay at Arcadia Lodge was lovely and I honestly didn’t want to leave. The lodge itself is beautiful, with gorgeous kauri wood floors, a balcony that looked out on a bay, a cheerful kitchen garden, and stunning views. Peter and Greg, our incredible hosts, made the experience unforgettable. Peter’s culinary creations were a highlight of each morning—everything he prepared was fresh, flavorful, and thoughtful. From fruits harvested straight from the garden to savory crêpes, homemade crumpets, and chocolate hazelnut croissants, every meal felt like a warm hug. Greg was a wealth of knowledge, always ready with spot-on suggestions and advice for the day’s adventures, adding so much to our trip. Our room was a peaceful retreat, with a comfortable bed and a sitting room with an expansive window that quickly became our favorite spot to enjoy a cool ocean breeze, drink pots of cozy tea, and eat homemade cookies you could help yourself to at any time. The soothing sounds of birdsong and the peaceful atmosphere made every moment here feel like a vacation. Russell itself is a delightful town—quiet, picturesque, and the perfect place to unwind and soak in the beauty of New Zealand’s Bay of Islands. Arcadia Lodge and its incredible hosts made our stay in Russell one we’ll remember for a long time. If you’re looking for relaxation, delicious food, and unbeatable hospitality, this is the place to be.

United KingdomMy wife and I came for a 5 week trip to the South Island in October 2024 but decided to make a detour to the North Island for 4 nights just to Russell specifically to return to Arcadia Lodge as we had such fond memories from our previous trip 2 years earlier. We were not disappointed and it was an amazing place to start our holiday. Greg and Peter are the most fabulous hosts. Super friendly and informative, with great tips on places to visit and where to eat. Peter's breakfasts are quite simply divine. Each morning there is a new "designer breakfast", frequently inspired by his trips around the world. Our room was immaculately presented and maintained with utterly gorgeous views. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the room spacious with its own outdoor seating area. There is a pretty and comfortable common sitting room with plenty of space to stretch out and chat with other guests, or to just sit and read quietly. The dining room has an outdoor area too from where there is a beautiful view over the harbour below. The home is a short and pleasant 7-minute walk into Russell with all its attractions. We could not recommend Arcadia Lodge highly enough. Thank you Greg and Peter for looking after us so warmly!!
