How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

No kitchen sink so had to do dishes in bathroom. Door was rickety but was fixed immediately when I mentioned it. A bit dusty and cobwebby!

Verified reviewClose to town and only a short drive to the mountain for skiing or sightseeing. It’s a small compact unit that is ok for one night but personally we would not want to stay any longer as it is a bit small. It was clean and had a great shower which is the reason we booked it based on the shower rating from other reviews. We hate places that have showers that are low pressure and not hot. This shower unit was good but you did need to adjust the temperature very slowly or it would be scolding hot or freezing cold. Once you found the correct setting it was good. Electric blanket was nice as the temperature plummeted overnight. Ohakune is not a cheap place to stay but we do understand it is seasonal so they have to make the most of the winter trade. It’s a great town and we will return next year in yet to be chosen accommodation.
Not a fan of non contact check in and check out done by text messages. It is also mention from other guests about contactless check in/out and some are also not fans. We like to meet the host as it makes it a more personal stay. I did however met the manager briefly as she came on site to fill the spa. It was a great timing as the Heater on the wall was not good enough to heat the room .We were supplied another heater which did the job and then the wall heater was able to cope. No heater in the bathroom only heat lamps which did nothing. Ohakune is a cold environment and we are surprised that accomodation we have stayed in the past and this one does not have adequate heating.

It was a particularly cold day that you stayed, we had the central heating heater on for your arrival and got you an extra heater when you requested one, our units are definitely not the smallest in town! We have a variety of different sized units to choose from, you booked our cheapest one.

Verified reviewWe have used this property on a number of occasions driving between Wellington and Auckland. We find it to be perfectly sited for our break and close to restaurants etc. it is always good value
On this occasion it was very cold outside with heavy frosts. We found the heating was not able to keep up with the cold. We should have requested a second heater. This is the only time we have had this issue.

Door really hard to open. Stairs are scary. No safety on rail or on the steps themselves. I couldn't go up the stairs due to fear. My grandaughter was a little scared too. Freezing cold. Heater did not heat the room at all. I froze all night. Very small bathroom with very small shower. Do not book if you are a bigger person.

Our heating is central heating and operated with a simple dial that you turn from 1 to 5. Why didn’t you raise your concerns about not being happy with the unit you chose and booked online when you arrived? We had other options available and would have happily moved you if you didn’t like the stairs which are compliant and shown in the photos, our bathrooms are standard size and suitable for most people.
